Jameela Jamil is urging holidaymakers to stop deleting unflattering holiday photos and to ‘take pictures and videos of everything’ – warning that hiding from the camera leaves future children with an incomplete picture of their parents’ lives. The presenter and actress, 40, recently appeared as a guest on the Travel Secrets podcast series. In the episode, she discussed with host Tanya Rose Simpson her experiences in Tokyo, Lake Garda, Berlin, Mauritius, as well as how she survived an earthquake in Japan. On the topic of travel tips and pet peeves, Jameela revealed why she keeps her phone glued to her hand while travelling – arguing that capturing photos on holiday actually helps her preserve precious memories. She said: ‘I don’t know if this is the kind of travel tip you’re looking for… but f*****g take pictures and videos of everything! You are not not being present. Take pictures and videos of everything. ‘We are overwhelmed with information in a way that we have never been before. Our brains are not designed to take up this much information. TV presenter Jameela Jamil recently appeared on Tanya Rose Simpson’s Travel Secrets podcast, opening up about travellers not appearing in or deleting unflattering holiday photos’I can’t remember what I did yesterday… it’s so easy to forget these moments, and you’re making these memories. So you must capture them.’She added that women ‘in particular’ tend to shy away from the camera or delete pictures they aren’t happy with because they feel self-conscious about their bodies. The Good Place star added: ‘Mums especially don’t want to be seen in their swimsuit, especially new mums, so she will count herself out of the photo – she’ll always be the one taking the photo.’She further pleaded: ‘Please take and be in those photos! Capture and be captured in those moments. ‘Don’t delete the photo just because you don’t look your best, because later you will look back and you will forget those moments – and your children will not have memories of you from those chunks of time and all those fun things you did.’Jameela’s opinion sparked mixed reactions, though dozens appeared to agree with her. One person wrote: ‘I’m clearing out my phone coming across photos of myself I HATED at the time. I thought I looked awful for whatever reason. Maybe 5 years ago. Guess what, I love them now.’ Another said: ‘This is so so true. Then you look back and wish you’d been braver and been in more photos with your little ones.’However, one person hit back: ‘People filming everything just put the phone down and use your eyes and your brain. That goes for the theatre and concerts too.’ Another added: ‘Middleway here? I actually remember more because I don’t always take pictures, so that I can be present. If you are constantly taking pictures, you are not present in the moment as you are present with taking pictures.’Meanwhile, a picturesque farm besieged by influencers has installed wi-fi boosters in its lavender fields to help cope with the number of social media users trying to upload photos.Castle Farm in Shoreham, near Sevenoaks in Kent, opens its 100 acres of lavender fields to the public every year in June and July for walks, picnics and photos.Indeed, the breathtaking scenery has proven an increasingly popular landmark for social media-savvy guests looking to get the perfect snap for Instagram. The field has become so sought-after that Lorna Roberts, who runs the farm with her brother and parents, has now installed wi-fi broadband signal boosters around the fields to facilitate the high number of influencers sharing snaps.Ms Roberts said: ‘It is quite breathtaking. The backdrop and the colour is just so impressive. It is like a corduroy of purple across the valley. It is the perfect backdrop for people’s photos.’There is definitely a lot of people who come down just to get that photo. It is less than an hour from central London and it is like you are in another world.’She added that some visitors had complained about the lack of signal in the area which led to them installing the improved wi-fi.
