England’s World Cup heroes have been cooling off ahead of their crunch quarter-final clash with Norway with a diving competition.The likes of Anthony Gordon, Elliot Anderson and Dan Burn were all willing participants, but it was Djed Spence who drew the most attention.The full back, who came on at left wing back in the second half of the win over Mexico, left fans in stitches as he took to the pool with his socks still on.Spence was seen telling onlookers: ‘I’m scared’ as he received a countdown to jump into the water.After launching himself in, he received a five out of 10, and told the camera: ‘That was my second dive ever in my life. How did I do?’Defensive hero Dan Burn, who made his first appearance of the World Cup in the second half against Mexico, was much more keen, performing a backwards somersault and receiving a seven out of 10. He later returned to the board, and was given an eight for a similar dive.Burn, who received widespread plaudits for his defensive showing at the Azteca, was also seen applauding midfielder Elliot Anderson, who jumped into the pool and was given a score of eight out of 10.Winger Anthony Gordon didn’t fare too well, however, as he attempted a traditional dive, but overcooked the entrance to the water, and was given a three.While his second attempt received an eight, it was Anderson who took the crown, performing a double somersault and picking up a nine out of 10, as well as a compliment of ‘that was unreal’ from Burn.England shared a video of the competition on their social media pages, and fans were left in stitches at Spence’s outfit.’Socks in the swimming pool is wild,’ one fan wrote on Instagram.Another posted: ‘Djed- my darling. Why are you wearing your socks in the pool?’ A third added: ‘Socks on a diving board is criminal.’England flew back to their Kansas City base following the win over Mexico and are now preparing to take on Norway in Miami on Saturday night.
