Ed Matthews, who featured in Louis Theroux’s Inside the Manosphere documentary this year, was arrested in the United States while watching England’s win over Mexico on MondayDespite insisting to authorities that they’d ‘done nothing wrong’, Matthews and one of the men with him were handcuffed. Footage then showed the unfazed pair loudly chanting ‘Mexico get battered everywhere they go’ while seated on the kerb. A separate audio clip appearing to feature Matthews arguing with police after his arrest was shared on TikTok on Tuesday. In the clip, the man claimed to be Matthews says: ‘What exactly have I been arrested for? You tell me officer.’The American officer answers: ‘Public intoxication.’Slurring his words in response, he replies: ‘Public intoxication? Wait so we left the plub (pub), what do you expect us to do? I haven’t done anything wrong and now you’ve got me arrested for what?’As his anger builds, he starts spouting insults at the officer in the audio clip.’Bald slaphead mate. You don’t even know my connects mate. And you’ve got me in the back of a car missing England game. Are you mad? You’re a bald twat mate,’ he adds. The clip finishes with the officer replying: ‘I don’t understand that slang.’ Matthews featured in Theroux’s 2026 documentary Inside the Manosphere, which explores the online ecosystem of content creators who encourage young men and boys to adopt a hypermasculine, ‘red pill’ lifestyle. The controversial philosophy has been widely criticised by campaigners and academics for promoting misogynistic, anti-feminist and male supremacist ideologies. Matthews, who starred alongside close friend and fellow ‘manosphere’ advocate HSTikkyTokky, has not yet provided an update on what has happened since his involvement with the police.
