Nicolas Raskin has admitted he is disappointed not to have secured a move away from Rangers during the transfer window.The 25-year-old has been a key factor in the Ibrox outfit’s upturn in form over the past few weeks with emphatic back-to-back wins over Celtic in the Premier Sports Cup quarter-final and the league turning their season on its head.Raskin, however, has revealed while on international duty with Belgium that he had prepared himself mentally to quit Glasgow after three-and-a-half years and has now had to come to terms with staying put.The midfielder looked sure to be snapped up after starring at the World Cup with his country and was left out of Derek McInnes’ squad on more than one occasion during August amid speculation about his future.Yet, despite late interest from Turkish side Besiktas, Raskin has been left to comb over what he describes as a ‘complicated’ summer in which he wanted to go. Raskin has enjoyed back-to-back victories over Old Firm rivals Celtic After missing out on a move, the Belgian has become a key man for boss Derek McInnes‘It is a bit of a disappointment, because I was mentally ready to leave,’ he told Belgian journalists. ‘But that is football and it is not a big deal.‘There are many parameters and off-field matters you have to take into account during a transfer. Ultimately, I am not in a position where I necessarily have to leave.‘Rangers is a good club, I am playing my matches, we have a great squad this year and are doing great things. If you ask me if I wanted to take a step forward and keep moving forward, I say yes.’Raskin admits he found it tough to deal with the uncertainty over his future, particularly when a move to Besiktas looked ready to go through as he was preparing to face Falkirk just ahead of the closure of the window.‘A transfer window like that isn’t easy for anyone,” he said. ‘Not for the players, but not for their families either. There is a lot of uncertainty.‘You’re basically just waiting for your phone to ring. On the morning of September 2, they called me to say that there was an offer (believed to be from Besiktas) and even almost an agreement. But I had a match that evening. Raskin revealed he played against Falkirk while unsure if a move to Turkey was going through‘On the bus to the stadium, I still didn’t know if I would stay at Rangers. An hour later, I was on the pitch. There wasn’t much time to think.’Raskin admits, though, that he is fully focused on pushing Rangers forward under McInnes – in the knowledge that is the best way to get the big move he covets in the not-too-distant future.‘From now on, the focus is back on myself and on performing as well as possible, so that the next transfer window goes better,’ he reported.‘I am not someone who gives up easily anyway. Life goes on. There are worse things.’Meanwhile, Clinton Nsiala has completed a permanent transfer to UAE Pro League side Sharjah FC for an estimated £300,000.The 22-year-old French defender made 17 appearances for Rangers after joining from AC Milan in the summer of 2024.
