Harry Kane has his eye on a career in the NFL when he eventually stops playing football.England captain Kane – tipped to be next month’s Ballon D’or Winner – believes he may have ‘five or six years’ left in the professional game and will match Peter Shilton’s all-time appearance record of 125 caps if he plays in all four of his country’s forthcoming Nations League games.But the 33-year-old revealed on Wednesday that he already has his eye on trying out as an American Football specialist place kicker.A two-handicap golfer, Kane has given up on his previous ambition of joining the professional ranks but said: ‘That [the NFL] is something I will try and look at a bit more seriously.‘It all depends on what happens in my career over the next five or six years but the NFL is a lot more realistic than the golf one.‘I take penalties and it is a very similar pressure and technique. If I did that, in terms of training, I would be closer to that more than any other sport. Harry Kane says taking penalties could help him succeed as an NFL kicker‘If I was to do it, it is something I would take seriously. I would take six months to a year to try and practise before. Maybe if I am in the MLS in the future or somewhere like that, it might be a thing where you could connect the two seasons.‘It is in the back of my mind because right now, I am feeling that I want to play as long as I can here.’Playing in the MLS is also something Kane has not talked about before and it appears the Bayern Munich striker is starting to consider what the back end of his career may look like.For now, he is concentrating on sorting out the final details of a new contract in the Bundesliga.Kane was subject of interest from Barcelona in the summer but said: ‘Bayern and I are still talking. We’re in good talks, I’ll be honest.‘We’re fairly close. There’s still some things that we need to iron out. I’m happy there and I think it won’t be too long before there’s some sort of announcement.‘I feel really comfortable in the team, with the coach, the environment. Like I touched on a bit earlier, at this level, I want to just be at this level, and push this level for as long as possible.’ Kane, pictured with wife Katie at Oktoberfest in Munich, is talking with Bayern over a new dealHaving just had the season of his life with club and country, Kane revealed a new strict diet has played its part.‘The biggest thing was after games having a few sweets to eat or something that isn’t good for you,’ he said.‘But last year, especially, I was ultra-strict. With the World Cup on the horizon, I knew how hot it was going to be, how demanding it was going to be.‘The fact I took out some of that stuff and then was performing the way I was performing and having my best season ever, it became addictive and I just carried on through the World Cup into this season.‘Ultimately I think all those little details do add up and when I talk about extracting as much as I can from this period of my career, these are the things that are going to help me.’
