A Paddy Power spokesperson said: ‘Astronomical ticket prices. Inflated hotel room rates. A diabolical half-time show. ‘Just when you think you’ve seen it all from Gianni Infantino, he goes and puts the World Cup on the market.’We thought that might be one thing that isn’t up for grabs, but Gianni seems to think otherwise, so we’ve lent him a sign to tell suitors football is officially for sale.’With the opposition from UEFA, CONCACAF and the AFC – plus Infantino’s own inner circle – the proposal now appears to be dead in the water. This is because 135 FIFA members are now publicly opposed to the FIFA Forward Enterprise – the name of the new company Infantino wants to set up to run the tournaments – bringing the dissidents above the required 106 threshold to block the plan.When announcing his resignation, Cordeiro distanced himself from Infantino’s plot and ripped into the proposal.He also called on his now former FIFA colleagues to follow suit and speak out against the plan, which he describes as a bad deal for football. Infantino had promised member associations a £30million incentive to force the deal through. UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham joined the growing calls for Infantino to resign from his role on Friday afternoon.
