Former Manchester United midfielder Nicky Butt has ripped into Lisandro Martinez following the defender’s red card at Chelsea on Saturday. The United centre-back was given his marching orders in the second half of the 2-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge for picking up two yellow cards in the space of 82 seconds. The second of those cards came when Martinez flung an arm into the face of Wesley Fofana in the penalty box with the crucial game hanging in the balance. Cole Palmer ultimately squeezed the spot kick past Senne Lammens to secure three points for the Blues.Martinez has been solely blamed by many for the defeat and Nicky Butt, who has previously criticised the Argentine, ripped into the 28-year-old on Piers Morgan’s show Football Uncensored, dubbing him a ‘cheat’ for elbowing Fofana.’Performance-wise, he’s been lacking so much,’ Butt said. ‘And again, I was never the best player. I know my level, I know I had a lot of bad games, but one thing I did every time I went out was run myself into the ground. He threw it in the other day.’He threw it in with that elbow because that was the most obvious thing anybody could do. And the reason he did it is because he’s not strong enough to defend properly.’ Nicky Butt has hit out at Man United defender Lisandro Martinez for getting sent off at Chelsea Butt called Martinez a ‘bluffer’ and a ‘cheat’ during a near three-minute-rant on the playerMartinez has hit the headlines more than once in the last month after he hit out at United’s Director of Football Jason Wilcox for the club’s lack of business, following a 2-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League. However, Butt, who was a part of United’s famous 1999 treble-winning team, has claimed that if Martinez made those comments as part of former squads, he would have come in for harsh treatment.’He has got the audacity to go out onto an interview and s**g off the powers that be about buying players when he is not even playing well himself. And if they were going to spend money on players, he’d [ought to] be careful because he’s the first one they’d replace.’He added: ‘If it was back in my day, he would have completely had his head ripped off. Everyone would have said, “Who do you think you are talking about me like that with the performances you’re putting in?”. And even if you’re European Player of the Year, you still don’t talk like that about your team-mates.’He has now gone from – I have no idea why – someone that the fans loved to someone the fans loathe and want out of their football club.’It is not the first time Butt has had his say on Martinez, with the pair embroiled in a feud earlier this year. Back in January, Martinez hit back at comments made by Paul Scholes and Butt mocking his size, and dared the former United duo to repeat them to his face.[embedded content] Martinez was given his marching orders and conceded a penalty after striking Wesley Fofana’s face during a 2-0 defeat at Stamford BridgeThe Argentine told them they can come ‘to my house’ and 11 months on Butt started his near-three-minute rant by referencing the back and forth.’That lad’s a bluffer, full stop,’ Butt said. The Butcher his nickname is. With him, he called out my mate; it was probably my fault because I said something tongue-in-cheek on a podcast.’It was like, “Haaland would pick up and carry him”. It was tongue-in-cheek, even though Solanke did it one week ago.’He’s come out and called out a player who has won 11 Premier Leagues for Manchester United, and played for god knows how many years, about you come and see me and knock on my front door.’You can’t say anything about these players because they get all touchy with it.’
