Ferrari are due to hold crisis meetings after Lewis Hamilton accused his team-mate Charles Leclerc of having the wrong ‘mentality’, implying the Monegasque driver is selfish following the pair’s clash at last Sunday’s Mexico City Grand Prix. The seven-time world champion added that Ferrari need ‘some serious talks behind closed doors’ over ‘big, big problems’ after the on-track scrap cost the Scuderia a possible victory. The skirmish came on the opening lap, as Leclerc charged up the grid at Hamilton, who started on pole. They nearly collided and Leclerc received a five-second penalty for gaining an unfair advantage by cutting the corner and taking the lead from Hamilton. The seven-time world champion went down to third as Max Verstappen, the eventual winner, capitalised on the internal red-on-red struggle.Hamilton later passed Leclerc to secure runners-up spot. But he was still furious, saying: ’This guy is 28 years old, so it’s not an age thing. It’s a mentality thing. It’s like, “Do or die. Either I win or none of us does,” and it shouldn’t be like that.‘Before I joined the team I witnessed back and forth between Charles and Carlos (Sainz, Leclerc’s previous team-mate) but that was for fourth or fifth places. But this was for first and second – and you lose the win. That’s significant. I hope we can work to a better understanding.’ A furious Lewis Hamilton insisted Ferrari needed to have ‘serious talks’ after the Mexican Grand Prix Hamilton was angered by a move from Charles Leclerc on the fourth corner of the race, which he believes cost Ferrari the race Hamilton questioned the mentality of his Ferrari team-mate following the first lap incidentLeclerc, who finished fourth, responded: ‘I will speak to Lewis. I don’t know his point.‘I could be also unhappy with how much he pushed me off track out of Turn One, but it is racing. When you are fighting for a win, it is the way it should be.’Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur said: ‘It’s a lot of frustration for me but I’m not the most important. It’s a lot of frustration for the 2,000 people working on the project. I will need time to digest this. We will fix it.’Hamilton said: ‘I think the core thing to remember, which maybe comes with age, is that every decision you make in the car impacts all the people that work in the background for the whole team. Leclerc claimed he considred giving position back to Hamilton, but the British star had already been passed by Max Verstappen Ferrari boss Fred Vasseur admitted he would need to speak to both of his drivers following their comments’Working as a team is a part of our job and a part of our contract. We could have easily done that today.’This will just continue unless action is taken, unless a real deep, serious conversation is had. So, it shouldn’t happen moving forward.”I’m happy because this guy [Antonelli] just won the championship so I’m really torn. Because on one side I’m happy, and on the other side I’m really p*****.’ Verstappen’s victory in Mexico saw him move above Hamilton into second place in the drivers’ championship.Mercedes star Antonelli became Formula One’s youngest world champion on Sunday after finishing third.READ MORE: Inside the rise of Kimi Antonelli: How a shock conversation with Mercedes boss Toto Wolff, a close relationship with Bono and hand washing cars at home propelled Italian to F1 history
