NFL fans slam ‘dumb as a rock’ star for outrageous stunt on return from surgically repaired leg… despite scolding from coach

New York Giants star Cam Skattebo found himself at the center of fans’ fury on Sunday when he resumed his usual antics. Skattebo returned to action in the Giants’ season opener against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night after his rookie season was cut short by injury last year. However, New York fans were left with their hearts in their mouths just one quarter into the Sunday Night Football matchup when the running back risked his health once again. Skattebo scored the Giants’ first touchdown of the game and the 2026 season when he waltzed into the end zone on a three-yard run. And, in celebration, the second-year player brought back his signature move. Skattebo launched into a backflip in the end zone. Thankfully for fans and head coach John Harbaugh, Skattebo landed the acrobatic move without issue or injury.  New York Giants star Cam Skattebo performed a backflip to celebrate his touchdown  The running back returned to action in the Giants’ season opener against Dallas Cowboys However, many fans were left stunned at Skattebo’s antics with many branding it stupidity considering he suffered a severe leg injury last season. ‘Every Giants fan spent all summer protecting that knee like fine china and Cam just launched the whole cabinet down the stairs,’ one social media user wrote on X. ‘Smart after just blowing out your ankle,’ another said sarcastically. ‘If I was a Giants fan I’d be panicking every time this dude scores. He’s got talent coming out of ears, but he’s dumb as a rock,’ posted a third. ‘Ankle holding on for dear life.. pls stop Skat,’ another begged. Skattebo would have likely risked the wrath of Harbaugh with the flip after he drew the ire of the coach when he attempted it during the offseason. His impressive rookie season came to an abrupt end in Week 8 when he suffered a gruesome leg injury that included open tibia fracture, a ruptured deltoid ligament, and a right ankle dislocation. Months later, he made an appearance at the WWE Fanatics Fest activation in July, where fans could recreate the entrances of their favorite wrestlers. New York head coach John Harbaugh scolded Skattebo for his offseason antics Skattebo chose to recreate Triple H’s entrance and walked out to his Motörhead music, The Game. Yet, Skattebo also put his own twist on the entrance, attempting to finish it with a little flourish. He attempted to perform a backflip – a move that has become somewhat of a signature for him on the football field – on stage. But he could not quite stick his landing, instead slipping backwards with his surgically repaired right leg twisting as he fell.’My reaction was – I haven’t talked to him yet; I’m going to talk to him, I’m sure – my reaction was this: Dude, at least stick it,’ Harbaugh told the Bleav in Giants podcast of the offseason incident. ‘I mean, land the thing if you’re going to do it, you know? That was my first reaction.’
