Chelsea launch new outcast training group of stars working separately to team-mates ahead of potential exits – as Blues look to trim squad

Chelsea have created a second training group who are working separately to Xabi Alonso’s main squad, including Liam Delap and Nicolas Jackson ahead of their potential departures. Both Delap and Jackson could yet leave this summer either permanently or temporarily, while Mykhailo Mudryk has also participated in these alternative sessions with the 25-year-old Ukrainian available for a loan after his suspension from football for anti-doping offences ended.Chelsea have attempted to get away from the ‘bomb squad’ accusations which have plagued the Premier League club in past years. This time, they are allowing this second group to work at the same time and on the same training pitch and use the same first-team facilities. Raheem Sterling was previously among those who had to work on his own at their Cobham headquarters.Chelsea sources have described it as a fluid group with players coming and going, depending on workloads and what Alonso wants in his main session, and deny any suggestion that only those up for sale or loan have been training separately.  Chelsea have created a second training group that is working separately to Xabi Alonso’s main squad The group includes several stars who may depart like Liam Delap and Nicolas Jackson (left)Danny Welbeck and Jordan Henderson have been involved in these other sessions as they get up to speed, for example, along with younger players. After loaning Reggie Walsh to League One Wigan on Wednesday, Chelsea’s website now lists 41 player profiles for their senior squad. That does not include Axel Disasi, who has also been working separately from Alonso’s sessions while he works on securing his exit. Tosin Adarabioyo, who has interest from England and Europe, is also believed to have been with this second group.Enzo Fernandez, Malo Gusto and Pedro Neto, who have all been linked with leaving and valued at £120million, £75m and close to £100m respectively, have been training with Alonso’s main group.Chelsea are working on slimming their bloated squad before their 2026-27 season officially starts, with Alonso’s first Premier League fixture in charge coming away at Fulham this Monday.
