Where athletes once spent their riches on launching record labels, today’s sports stars are building production studios with an eye towards conquering Hollywood.The latest example is Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen and Out of Pocket Studios, his new company that plans to work in both entertainment and commercial productions.As reported by Variety, Out of Pocket Studios is an extension of an existing agreement between Allen and Skydance Sports, a Paramount Skydance subsidiary.The day-to-day operations will be handled by president of strategy Lindsey Cohen, who previously worked at DAZN after starting her career at CAA, according to Variety.’Skydance Sports has given me a platform to turn the ideas I care most about into something real,’ said Allen, in a prepared statement. ‘We’re excited to share what Out of Pocket Studios has created so far, and for everyone to see what we’re building from here.’Although he may be following in the footsteps of Tom Brady, who owns a studio, and Travis Kelce, who has worked as a producer, Allen’s connection to Hollywood is more personal: He’s married to actress Hailee Steinfeld. Instead, Out of Pocket seems more sports focused.In addition to a Labor Day CBS special titled ‘American Tailgate,’ which will feature music and celebrities, Out of Pocket is also producing Kyle Brandt’s new Paramount+ weekly football analysis program.Out of Pocket is also planning a series titled ‘The Buffalo Miracle,’ which ‘captures the heroism of a McDonald’s manager in Buffalo who, during a deadly blizzard in 2022, opened the restaurant to stranded citizens on Christmas Eve.’Of course, Allen has some more immediate concerns away from Hollywood in Orchard Park, New York, where the Bills have opened the new Highmark Stadium as Buffalo enters the season as one of the AFC favorites.The Bills will open their season in Houston on September 13.
