We weren’t really on the same page with stuff,’ he said.However, everything changed after Gia returned from the Gold Coast and the couple made a conscious decision to stop discussing MAFS.Alan said he deliberately chose not to watch her controversial season because he feared the program would colour his view of her.’If I watch this show, it’s going to give me this Gia reality TV opinion about her,’ he recalled thinking.’I even said this to her a few times: ‘We need to stop talking about MAFS. Let’s be organic and talk about real, everyday life stuff.”When we dropped the whole MAFS talk, everything just fell into place. We go to the park every night after school. She’s like my little parrot now – all my little sayings around the house, she’s in the background saying the same crap.”She’s like a mini version of myself already.’Gia and Alan are now expecting their first child together, a baby girl. It will be Gia’s second child and Alan’s first.The couple said the pregnancy was not planned, but they had already established that they wanted the same things from the relationship.The couple revealed they have already settled on a name for their unborn daughter, but would only disclose that it begins with the letter A.Gia said Willa was the first person they told about the pregnancy and was ‘over the moon’ to discover she would finally have a sister.’She couldn’t believe it because she’s been an only child for, in a month, 10 years,’ Gia said.’Every year [she asked], ‘Can I have a brother or a sister?’ I’m like, ‘No, I haven’t met that person.’Gia admitted she and Alan were stunned to learn they were expecting a girl because her pregnancy had felt so different from her first.’We were shocked. I 100 per cent thought it was a boy,’ she said.’With my daughter, I was really sick, and I thought, ‘Well, I’m not really sick.’ The things I’ve been craving are meat. I make him get me Bunnings sausages a couple of times a day on the weekends. I’m like, ‘I need a steak. I need sausages.’The couple confirmed the pregnancy was not planned, though neither was opposed to having a child together.’We were being careful,’ Gia said, before Alan joked: ‘Our pullout game’s not great.’Gia added: ‘We had these conversations that we both wanted the same things. I was like, ‘Look, I’m looking for commitment. I’m looking to have another baby,’ and he was like, ‘I want the same stuff.”We were open to it. Obviously now it has [happened], and we’ve just embraced it.’The pair also addressed criticism that their relationship had moved too quickly and dismissed early suggestions it was a publicity stunt.’A lot of people thought we were a PR relationship at the start, which was a little bit of a slap,’ Alan said.’Anyone that does spend time with us can see we bounce off each other and the energy’s always real positive.’Gia said moving in together happened naturally while she struggled with the pressure of watching MAFS play out publicly.’I was at Alan’s house every day anyway,’ she said. ‘We were like, ‘Are we doing it or not? Let’s just throw ourselves into this. If it works, it works. If it doesn’t, it doesn’t. At least we tried.’She said Alan had given her the security she felt was missing in past relationships.’He makes me not want to run away,’ Gia said. ‘I don’t feel the need to run away for attention because I’m not secure in the relationship, or do big things to gain his affection. We just fit. It just works.’Gia also admitted watching her own behaviour on MAFS prompted her to reassess her relationship with alcohol.She stressed that she did not believe she had a drinking problem, but conceded that many of her most explosive moments occurred when she was intoxicated.’I did see some of the dinner parties where I was drunk,’ she said.’These things only have happened when I’m drunk.”Watching myself at some of the dinner parties, how I acted, I was embarrassed. I thought I should probably – not that I had a problem with alcohol – I just become an obnoxious, annoying person, and I need to not be that.’Gia and Alan had already begun cutting back before discovering she was pregnant. Am I even pretty?’ I started really second-guessing myself, whereas if you see me at the beginning of the show, I was so confident.”Apparently I’m disgusting, according to half the country.’Gia said she initially relied heavily on filters after filming, but had since begun presenting herself more naturally online.’This is who I am and I’m going to love myself,’ she said. ‘He loves who I am and how I look, so do I really care what anyone else thinks? No.’Alan admitted it was difficult to watch the criticism affect his partner and revealed the couple eventually stepped away from social media.’She did have some hard weeks where she was emotional,’ he said. ‘It was hard for her, and it wasn’t easy for me to see.”We jumped off socials for a bit in the end because it was just too much.’He nevertheless admitted he regularly returns fire at users who attack Gia in the comments.’I don’t appreciate the way that people speak about Gia sometimes,’ he said.’It wouldn’t be me being myself if I didn’t clap back at a few of the comments.’Reflecting on the experiment, Gia conceded she had regrets about her treatment of the other brides.’I wish I wasn’t how I was with the women. I wish I didn’t behave as poorly as I did,’ she said.However, she also described the filming environment as ‘toxic’, ‘isolating’ and ‘like torture’, claiming contestants were denied ordinary freedoms.’I’m not somebody who does well in a controlled environment,’ Gia said.’Being told I can’t get a coffee, can’t call my daughter – all those things for me mentally aren’t going to bring a good Gia out of me.’Gia claimed she repeatedly asked to leave the experiment but was persuaded by production to remain.’Every time I would threaten to leave or say, ‘I actually just want to leave, just let me go,’ they would sit there for two hours and convince me why I should stay,’ she alleged.’At that time you’re isolated. You can’t talk to anyone else, so you believe these people are your friends. You believe your producer is your best friend.”They’re not your friends. They’re there to do a job at the end of the day, and you’ll just get manipulated if you believe them.’Gia offered similarly blunt advice to the next crop of MAFS participants, warning them not to be intimidated by production rules.’Hang in there and don’t get manipulated,’ she said. ‘Just remember, you’re the star of the show. They need you more than you need them.’Despite her difficult experience, Gia is already eyeing a reality television comeback.She said her manager had considered putting her forward for The Traitors before the pregnancy and revealed she would like to compete in a future season after giving birth.The couple are also keen to renovate together on The Block.’The Block together, I think, would be hilarious – him and I,’ Gia said.She also revealed she had recorded a pilot for a new podcast with Farmer Wants A Wife alum Miranda, describing the project as ‘very juicy’.Alan insisted the immediate priority was ensuring Gia and their baby remained healthy before moving ahead with an engagement.’We’re just taking one step at a time,’ he said. ‘We don’t need to please anyone else’s timeline.’For all the toxic fallout, Gia said she would still go through the MAFS experience again because it ultimately led her to Alan and their unborn daughter.’MAFS brought me to Alan.
