George Clooney and his wife Amal are set to launch their first restaurant together – in a glitzy South of France village that already has plenty of A-list admirers.The couple’s career as restaurateurs comes just months after the actor, 65, and his human rights lawyer wife, 48, became French citizens and made the country their main family base – while also maintaining their Lake Como estate, worth more than £75million, in northern Italy. Hollywood star Clooney is launching an Italian eatery in the picturesque Provençal village of Cotignac, close to the sprawling estate where he currently lives.The new venture is due to open next spring and will see the star team up with Canadian hotelier Graham Porter, owner of the nearby Lou Calen hotel. The village is already well known in celebrity circles, with Brad Pitt and Cindy Crawford among those who’ve visited. The good news for UK tourists, if you want to get a taste (literally) of the actor’s life, it’s surprisingly easy, with Cotignac just a 90-minute drive away from Nice Côte d’Azur Airport. The village is accessible for British tourists wanting a taste of Provence – Nice airport is 90 minutes’ away In terms of nature, the Rocher de Cotignac is perhaps one of the most famous attractions here.This 80-metre-high limestone cliff features troglodyte cave dwellings, alongside medieval watchtowers.’At some point during the last two million years, the River Cassole flowed over the rock face and formed the petrified waterfalls and cave dwellings that attract visitors to the site today,’ according to tourism site See Provence. ‘Originally the village was situated right at the base of this huge waterfall so these caves served as shelters for both residents and their animals. However, in more recent years the river was diverted so that it now turns to the east of the village and flows into the Argens.’ The entry fee is €2 (£1.69) and guided visits are available.Visitors have been impressed, with one writing on Tripadvisor: ‘Beautiful panoramic view of Cotignac!’Another added: ‘So, it’s a steep climb, but the view from the top is amazing.
