Laura Byrne has spoken out against influencers who undergo major surgical procedures in their 30s. Her comments come days after Ruby Tuesday Matthews shared details of undergoing a facelift at the age of 33. The Bachelor star says that those who have influence over young women, like Matthews, and opt for these surgeries, are creating a ‘frightening’ world. ‘The more the people are doing at the age of 30 and talking about it, all it does is normalise it,’ she said in a new episode of her podcast, Life Uncut. Laura said that she worries about the impact these social media stars have on her three young daughters. ‘I dare say that in ten years’ time, getting a facelift at 30 is gonna be like the new boob job and that to me is deeply inherently frightening. I do not want that world for my daughters,’ the 40-year-old continued. You don’t need to change anything about yourself, like these are all things I’m trying to instill in my children.’Laura admitted that she has made some efforts to stall her own ageing, which puts her in a difficult position.’I think there is some hypocrisy in me saying these things to my daughters and then going and getting a surgical procedure because I can’t fathom the idea of ageing, because I’m trying to fight against it radically,’ she said.Byrne’s co-star Brittany Hockley then questioned if it is better for influencers to be open about their surgeries instead of pretending they have good genes or are achieving their looks with skincare alone. ‘Would you rather people be open with the work they’ve done, so that you are hyper aware of it and not comparing yourself to something that is unattainable?’ she asked.’It’s an impossible choice to make and there’s no right or wrong answer. I want them to be honest with the audience so they know, but on the other hand, you don’t protect the young (women) and you lead your audience down the garden path’.
