Hayden Panettiere and Wladimir Klitschko’s daughter Kaya, 11, appeared remotely at a court hearing on Thursday – where her father was awarded temporary guardianship of her estate.Panettiere died aged 36 on August 16 at a residence in Greenville, South Carolina, from the ‘toxic effects’ of multiple drugs – including fentanyl. Her death was accidental. She is survived by Kaya, whom she welcomed during her nine-year romance with ex-fiance Klitschko, 50. Last month, to protect daughter Kaya’s inheritance as the sole beneficiary of Panettiere’s reported $6 million estate, Klitschko filed a petition in Los Angeles to become the temporary guardian of his only child’s estate. The former boxer had claimed pieces of Panettiere’s property were being taken by federal law enforcement agents investigating her death and by an unnamed nonfamily member looking to sell them, with no one in a position to try to recover them for her daughter. In 2018, Panettiere signed full custody of her daughter, Kaya, to her ex amid her battle with postpartum depression and addiction and Wladimir moved the toddler to his native Ukraine Hayden Panettiere and Wladimir Klitschko’s daughter Kaya, 11, appeared at a court hearing on Thursday – where her father was awarded temporary guardianship of the late star’s estate Panettiere died aged 36 on August 16 at a residence in Greenville, South Carolina, from the ‘toxic effects’ of multiple drugs – including fentanyl. They spoke only to introduce themselves at the brief hearing with only Kaya visible on camera, sitting at a table in front of curtains. Judge Stephanie Santoro granted Klitschko the status of temporary guardian of Kaya’s estate until a long-term administrator can be appointed.Santoro asked Klitschko’s lawyer, Diane Park, why the matter was urgent. Park said they believed a person described only as a nonrelative had taken items after Panettiere’s death and had tried to sell some of her jewelry at a pawn shop. And she said assets were in danger of going unaccounted for during the death investigation. Court documents said authority was needed to deal with both the pawn shop owner and police agencies. Panettiere’s taxes also need to be filed this month, the lawyer said. Santoro, satisfied with the explanation, approved the move. The judge also stated that Kaya does not need to be present for the next hearing, set for December 7. The Daily Mail has contacted representatives for Panettiere, Klitschko and his attorney for comment and has yet to hear back. In an October 1 filing obtained by The Daily Mail, Klitschko says he is ‘informed and believes that Hayden’s 2025 individual state and federal income tax returns are due on extension on October 15, 2026, and that approximately $30,000 in income tax is owed.’Per the documents, Klitschko fears that if Panettiere’s returns are not filed in time, her estate will be hit by ‘unnecessary interest and failure to file penalties, all to the direct financial detriment of Kaya, Hayden’s sole intestate heir.’ The father and daughter appeared in Los Angeles County court remotely via videoconference. After two years of dating, they split up in 2011, before rekindling their relationship two years later. In October 2013, they were engaged, with the actress giving birth to their daughter Kaya in December 2014. However, it was confirmed in 2018 that the couple had split again but remained on amicable terms. Later that year, Panettiere announced she had made the ‘difficult decision’ to sign full custody of Kaya to her ex.The widely discussed move came after Panettiere fell into a deep depression, which she said made her ‘feel nothing,’ and led to her ‘turning to wine’ and ultimately being sent to rehab for both depression and substance abuse. In her final interview in May, she spoke to Dear Mome about her choice, saying: ‘It wasn’t a decision I made lightly, nor was it a decision I even wanted to make. I was going through a really challenging time in my life.’ Panettiere’s on-off boyfriend Brian Hickerson (above together) and his brother, Zach, were both at the scene when the actress was pronounced dead Panettiere is remembered for her role as Claire Bennet on the hit NBC series Heroes She played Juliette Barnes on the ABC show Nashville, releasing a number of her own songsPanettiere began acting as a child, appearing in soap operas, then gained wider recognition for her role in the 2000 sports drama Remember the Titans with Denzel Washington, and as the voice of Dot in Pixar’s 1998 film A Bug’s Life.
