Gary Oldman and Jack Lowden share emotional hug on set of Slow Horses

You’d have thought the first rule at spy school was ‘hide your emotions’ – but, clearly, no one told Gary Oldman and Jack Lowden. The actors, who play Jackson Lamb and River Cartwright in the hit espionage series Slow Horses, were photographed hugging emotionally, with Lowden even looking close to tears at one point. It certainly doesn’t reflect their characters’ relationship – with slovenly, flatulent spy boss Lamb constantly insulting his protege, once telling him: ‘If they threatened to kill you… I would buy them a beer and a bullet.’But this isn’t a scene from the Emmy-winning Apple TV show, which tells the story of a team of disgraced MI5 agents relegated to dead-end jobs with their maverick boss, but a touching moment as the stars finished filming.Gone is the tension that has been brewing between them since the show, also starring Kristin Scott Thomas as MI5 head Diana Taverner, came out four years ago. Both men looked genuinely emotional as they said their farewells as season six wrapped, particularly Lowden, 36, who is married to actress Saoirse Ronan and is tipped to be the next James Bond.
