Clueless star Elisa Donovan says that she ‘wasn’t surprised’ by the tragic death of her former co-star Brittany Murphy.Murphy died in 2009 after going into cardiac arrest. Her cause of death was accidental from pneumonia, although there were other contributing factors involved. During an appearance on the Still Here Hollywood podcast this week, Donovan recalled finding out about Murphy’s death after a friend called her to break the news.’They told me that she had died but nobody knew, and I have to say, my first thought was, I wasn’t surprised,’ she admitted.’We also shared a hairdresser, not an on set person but our hairdresser in life, and she would, in confidence, say to me, “I’m worried about her.” Because she would go to her house.’Donovan said that she was also concerned about Murphy’s wellbeing, but felt that she was ‘not a close enough friend of hers’ to step in and intervene. Her legs were shaking. And I was like, “Are you okay?” And she was like, “Yeah! What? What do you mean?” and I went, “Something is not okay with this person”,’ Donovan shared. ‘I looked at her and I was like, “She is not healthy. She is not okay. And why is no one helping her?”‘Donovan then said that she believes Murphy had ‘an eating disorder and a drug problem.”That’s what I thought and I knew it. But she had so many people around her. What am I gonna do? This person from her past… come in and save the day or something?’ she mused.Donovan said that she continued worrying about Murphy when she noticed that the once A-list star was no longer booking big movies anymore. ‘So when I heard about this, I was just so sad for her, but I also, like I said, I wasn’t surprised,’ she reiterated. On December 20, 2009, Murphy was found unresponsive inside of the Hollywood Hills mansion she shared with her husband Simon Monjack and mother Sharon. Donovan said that she believes Murphy had ‘an eating disorder and a drug problem’ The actress died in 2009 after collapsing inside of her Hollywood Hills home. Her husband Simon Monjack died just five months later in the same location; both pictured in 2007She was rushed to hospital, where she went into cardiac arrest and died. It was later revealed that Murphy died from untreated pneumonia, anemia, and drug intoxication involving prescription and over-the-counter medications.Just five months later, Monjack also died in the same home as his late wife. His cause of death was pneumonia. After Monjack’s death, his mother Linda Monjack voiced concern that there had been ‘severe mold’ on the premises.She told the Daily Mail in 2013: ‘All I know is that before Simon’s death, he was having hallucinations that things were crawling out of his skin.’The theory was previously ruled out in 2010 by the medical examiner’s office.Murphy is best known for playing Tai Frasier in 1995’s Clueless.She also starred in the Oscar-winning films like 8 Mile and Girl, Interrupted, which earned her widespread acclaim from critics.
