Charlie Sheen allegedly ‘terrified’ his Two and a Half Men co-star Melanie Lynskey while filming his final scene on the CBS sitcom. The series creator, Chuck Lorre, made the claim in an excerpt of his forthcoming memoir titled Sitcom that was published by Vanity Fair on Friday. Sheen, 61, had portrayed the character of Charlie Harper for eight seasons before the show’s production was put on hiatus amid the actor’s public struggles with substance abuse at the time. The star’s contract was later terminated in 2011 after his tirades against Lorre, with Ashton Kutcher replacing Sheen that same year. ‘The last scene we shot was with Charlie and Melanie Lynskey. He couldn’t remember any of his lines and had to use the furniture to keep himself upright,’ Lorre claimed in his book, which hits shelves on October 13. ‘Melanie was terrified. It was clear to everyone that this man, whom we’d all grown to love, was in trouble. I had no choice but to shut down the show,’ he further alleged in his memoir. Lorre claimed that before Sheen was fired from the show, he had ‘started calling in sick all the time.’ Then in 2010, the Hollywood star was involved in an incident at the Plaza Hotel in NYC where he was allegedly thrown out after trashing his room while high on cocaine, per the New York Post. ‘The next few months, we worked in a constant state of anxiety,’ Lorre further penned. ‘We’d shoot the show on Friday nights and wish each other a pleasant weekend, all the while afraid of what might happen to our star between now and Tuesday morning. (Remember? Four-day workweek).’ The worry continued when the cast got an entire week off every two weeks, Lorre claimed in the excerpt. ‘That meant 10 days where Charlie’s life and the lives of those around him were in jeopardy.’ When the show went on hiatus, Lorre alleged that he had spoken to Sheen about shooting only two more episodes so the actor could have time to ‘get cleaned up.’ ‘He angrily insisted we shoot four more,’ Lorre claimed of Sheen. ‘I was emotionally exhausted and held my ground. Two more episodes, then we break for a desperately needed three-month hiatus.’ ‘Melanie was terrified. It was clear to everyone that this man, whom we’d all grown to love, was in trouble. During her time on the show, Lynskey had played the character of Sheen’s neighbor named Rose. Sheen was later replaced by Kutcher from 2011 until the show’s end in 2015. Lorre later reconciled with Sheen, with the actor also taking on a role in his HBO Max comedy series Bookie. When he came to the table read of that episode, I walked up, and we hugged. It was just great.’ Lorre added that he ‘loved working with Charlie on Two and a Half Men. And with that comes deceit and manipulation. All that c**p doesn’t fit in anymore.’
