All-night trains linking Manchester airport to the city centre are launching next month – just in time for summer

All-night train services are set to launch from next month from Manchester Airport to the city centre, improving the ease of transport for those travelling to and from the city.

TransPennine Express (TPE) is set to introduce a new timetable next month with services to run all night to and from Manchester Airport.

The addition of eight new services will mean that there will be a train roughly every hour between Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Airport all day, every day.

Alongside the rest of the rail industry, the train operator will introduce a new timetable from Sunday, 17 May.

The move is aimed at improving connectivity for passengers travelling early in the morning or late at night, particularly those flying in and out of the UK’s third?busiest airport.

TPE will also introduce an additional weekday call at Dewsbury on the 8.05am Leeds to Manchester Piccadilly service.

The stop is new to the timetable and is expected to support students and commuters travelling into Manchester, offering greater flexibility for early?morning journeys.

Elsewhere, customers will benefit from additional services for a month during the summer during the Edinburgh Fringe.

TPE is set to run two extra services a day for revellers after they have spent time at this year’s festival.

The operator will run the additional services from Monday, 3 August until Friday, 4 September alongside its usual timetable to support those returning from a show.

Andrew McClements, customer experience and transformation director at TPE, said: ‘Although most of our services are unchanged, we encourage customers to take a moment to check any journeys they make regularly.

‘We’re pleased to be introducing services that give customers more choice, added flexibility, and an improved overall experience when travelling with us.’

TPE also reminded passengers to check journey information before travelling, as planned engineering work may result in some temporary changes to services.

The train changes in Manchester come as the National Rail timetable is updated – which happens twice a year, in May and December.

The next timetable will start on Sunday, 17 May 2026, and will remain in operation until Saturday, 12 December 2026.

And Manchester is not the only airport to see night-time transport improved as of late.

Earlier this month, it was announced that a new overnight train service connecting the west of England with Gatwick Airport is set to launch this summer.

Great Western Railway (GWR) said that the trial service will start operating on 6 June.

It will run between Reading and the airport via Redhill, Reigate, Dorking and Guildford.

The overnight trains will operate along the North Downs Line and will run for 12 weeks on a trial basis.
