West Ham are preparing to outbid European rivals to sign former Tottenham striker Troy Parrott.The Hammers want to bolster their attack quickly with the new Championship season looming and after being rebuffed for Sunderland’s Wilson Isidor, are targeting AZ Alkmaar forward Parrott.The Republic of Ireland international has interest from Ajax, Como, PSV Eindhoven and Real Betis but Alkmaar are reluctant to sell to a Dutch rival.The Hammers hope an offer of around £18million will be enough to fend off the competition.Parrott struggled while at Spurs but after an initial loan to Excelsior Rotterdam he began to find his feet and has been prolific with Alkmaar since.He has scored 68 goals in 127 games across all competitions during his three seasons in the Netherlands – averaging a goal every 137 minutes. That includes 51 goals in 96 games for AZ in all competitions. It was only the second Shield Alkmaar had won in their history.The 24-year-old Parrott has 37 caps for the Republic of Ireland and has scored six goals across his last three competitive internationals, including both goals in the World Cup qualifying win over Portugal, a hat-trick against Hungary to secure a play-off place, and the opening goal against Czechia.He would be open to a return to London with West Ham despite them being in the Championship.The Hammers want another finisher to play alongside Jarrod Bowen.They expect Niclas Fullkrug to depart with Lazio interested and are working on a loan for winger Simon Adingra from Sunderland.They will also make an improved bid for midfielder Arne Engels at Celtic.They would like defender Axel Disasi from Chelsea but he has top flight interest with Crystal Palace ready to bid.Cardiff defender Dylan Lawlor is also a target.
