West Ham United paid their respects once again to club legend Ludek Miklosko, following his death on Monday, ahead of their Carabao Cup third-round tie with Fulham on Tuesday night.Miklosko’s death at the age of 64 was announced on Monday morning after a long battle with cancer.And in the lead-up to kick-off at an emotional London Stadium on Tuesday, the Championship club came as one to honour their former goalkeeper.The players, as well as Fulham’s starting XI, observed a minute’s applause in the centre-circle as a picture of the ex-Czechia international adorned the screens inside the ground.Injured midfielder Tomas Soucek also held a West Ham goalkeeper shirt with Miklosko’s name and No 1 on the back.Soucek, who hails from Czechia too, held the shirt in one of the goals before laying it to rest behind it and in front of the home supporters. Miklosko kept 126 clean sheets in eight years with the Hammers and is perhaps best remembered for an inspirational series of saves to deny Manchester United the title in 1995.The popular Czech, signed from Banik Ostrava for £300,000, later returned to the club as goalkeeper coach and fans have continued to sing his name for many years.West Ham’s players held a moment of silence before training on Monday before repeating the feat ahead of facing Fulham at the London Stadium.There are also plans for a tribute at next month’s Championship fixture against Queens Park Rangers, where Miklosko spent the final three years of his playing career. Miklosko, who won 42 international caps and represented Czechoslovakia at the World Cup in 1990, was diagnosed with cancer in 2021 and announced three years later his decision to withdraw from further treatment.His son Martin said: ‘We are heartbroken to announce the passing of my Dad Ludek, following a brave and courageous battle with cancer.’On behalf of my Mum and my family, I would like to sincerely thank the fans and everyone at West Ham United Football Club for the kind wishes, thoughts and prayers that were sent to my Dad during his illness.
