The English WAG who’s supporting Argentina: Premier League star’s girlfriend defends cheering for her country’s enemy in World Cup semi-final

Come 8pm on Wednesday evening and there’s only one thing which the televisions of pubs and households across the country will be showing. Thomas Tuchel’s men face Argentina – and Lionel Messi – in Atlanta for a place in the World Cup final. A final, at that, which would mark England’s first since that glorious day at Wembley Stadium in 1966. It simply doesn’t get much bigger for Three Lions fans who have endured decades of disappointment. Yet there’s one Englishwoman, to the surprise of many, who will instead be supporting the Argentinians. Kelci-Rose Bowers, 22, admits her decision is ‘controversial’ but feels it’s for good reason – her boyfriend, Tottenham Hotspur defender Marcos Senesi, will be in the Argentina dugout at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Senesi earned a late call-up from Lionel Scaloni after enjoying an impressive season on the south coast with Bournemouth – and actually received the news while on a romantic getaway with Bowers in Ibiza. The 29-year-old made his World Cup debut, playing the full 90 minutes, in the reigning champions’ 3-1 win over Jordan in the group stages and will be raring to go against a team of familiar faces on Wednesday night. The tie has, however, left his partner in something of a pickle.  Marcos Senesi’s English girlfriend will be supporting him and Argentina when they face England tomorrow night The couple met while playing for AFC Bournemouth together – Senesi for the men and Bowers for the womenBowers took to TikTok on Monday night to explain exactly why she will be praying on her country’s downfall in a little more than 24 hours.’Crazy situation, didn’t think this was actually going to happen,’ she said. ‘It’s crazy that England are playing Argentina in the semi-final, that’s not happened in forever. ‘This situation is very unusual for me, of course, being English and England making it to the semi-final is a crazy accomplishment and I’m super proud of my country.’Of course my partner is playing for Argentina so for anyone in any relationship, depending on what your partner does, you’re going to support them. For me, being able to come to the World Cup and travel around has been amazing. ‘Embracing the culture of Argentina and wearing the Argentina shirt has been something that I’ve been doing – and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it. ‘Now England are playing Argentina there is some controversy about what I’m going to do. Look, I’m going to go to the game, enjoy the game, respect both teams and cheer on my partner. I’m just there to enjoy it guys.’Bowers has indeed been in the stands supporting Senesi across North America this summer and will be a spectator in Atlanta, though it remains to be seen whether she will be donning the famous blue and white stripes of Argentina. The pair are thought to have started dating in the summer of 2024 after meeting at AFC Bournemouth while Bowers was playing for the women’s team and Senesi with the men. Bowers has been in the stands sporting her ‘Senesi 2′ Argentina shirt throughout the tournamentShe had moved west to the Vitality Stadium on loan from Portsmouth a few short months earlier. The Cherries’ announcement of her signing went viral, gaining more than 21 million views in a matter of days. Bowers, who was released by Bournemouth earlier this summer, is however not just a footballer but also a model. She was reportedly signed to modelling agency FORTE two years ago and regularly enjoys lavish trips on the continent. Images shared to the WAG’s Instagram, on which she boasts more than 150,000 followers, show her and Senesi enjoying a series of sun-soaked getaways.  Indeed, since they first sparked up a romance, Senesi has featured regularly on his new love interest’s page, with Bowers even managing to capture the moment he received his call-up for the World Cup.The pair had been getting ready to head out for dinner in Ibiza when the Cherries centre-back received the news – and their reaction was priceless. ‘We just came back from Miami, where we had been on holiday, and came to Ibiza just to enjoy a bit and relax,’ Bowers explained while her boyfriend was on the phone. ‘But this whole time neither of us have switched off, we were both aware of the situation of a centre-back getting injured.’We have both the whole time not been able to fully enjoy, you know what I mean.’And now Marcos has just been called up. He has been called up for the World Cup, are you joking.’This is literally what both of us have been praying for, every day he has just been thinking about this.’The video showed the pair screaming and embracing when Senesi put the phone down after talking to, presumably, Scaloni. Yet that’s not the only news which has provided Senesi a cause for celebration this summer.  Senesi has featured regularly on Bowers’ Instagram since the couple first sparked up a romance in the summer of 2024The defender, who made 128 appearances on the south coast, signed for Spurs on a free transfer in June in a move he described as ‘special’. He added: ‘From the first moment, the club has shown why they want me and how much they want me to be a part of what they are building. It’s exciting and something I can’t wait to be involved in.’Every time I step on the pitch, I will do my best to make the fans proud and to take the club back to the place it belongs. I want to win things with Spurs and will do everything I can to make that happen.’But before Senesi gets to work in north London, the biggest game of his career beckons in a little more than 24 hours. How much is David Beckham set to pocket from his World Cup brand deals?
