South Carolina edge rusher Dylan Stewart did all he could to tank his NFL Draft prospects on Saturday, throwing a punch at a rival that has left him suspended indefinitely by his own team.Stewart, 21, is projected to be a top 10 overall pick in the 2027 Draft after he finishes his third college season, but he could have blown up his future after a meltdown on and off the field against Alabama this week. The Gamecocks headed to Tuscaloosa as huge underdogs and that proved to be correct as Alabama ran out 49-18 winners – something Stewart appears to have had difficulty dealing with.Perhaps the most egregious moment came when he was caught on camera punching Bama tight end Josh Ford hard in the helmet, leading to a ‘blow to the head’ personal foul penalty. After the game, Ford claimed to reporters in the locker room that he was punched three times by Stewart throughout the duration of the game. Not content with that outrageous moment, Stewart also had three further meltdowns, the first of which coming when he snapped back at one of his coaches while leaving the field. He is also claimed to have refused to leave the game at one point. In a separate clip, he tries to sit alone on the Gamecocks bench and has to be physically dragged back to his teammates.A fourth clip, meanwhile, showed him walking slowly off the field, leaving head coach Shane Beamer furiously screaming at him: ‘Jog off the f***ing field.’Mere hours after the game had concluded, Beamer confirmed that Stewart had been ‘suspended indefinitely’, admitting it was ‘more than just the punch’.Beamer had also called the defensive end’s actions ‘unacceptable’ in his postgame media availability, and his future with the program now appears to be shrouded in doubt.’I saw the play that he got the penalty on. I didn’t see it until just now, and that’s unacceptable,’ Beamer said in his press conference. ‘That’s not how we do things around here. I’m embarrassed to see that because that’s not what we’re about.’Didn’t see it during the game. I knew we had a penalty. I didn’t know what happened. We’ve got a lot of fiery, emotional, competitive guys, and I love that. When you’re in the arena, emotions are high.’Worryingly, it is not the first time that Stewart has courted controversy during his college career. Back in 2024, he performed a gun gesture while standing over then-Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart, before he made the move to the NFL with the Giants. Stewart has a history of on-field issues which are doing nothing to help his 2027 draft stock Stewart played against Alabama on Saturday night but it is not known when he’ll next playA season later, he was ejected against Vanderbilt for unsportsmanlike conduct after shoving an opponent.Stewart is among the top prospects heading into the 2027 Draft but scouts are likely to be concerned about his attitude as preparation continues for next April.’Stewart has multiple character concerns,’ one X user wrote, while another added: ‘He is literally tanking his draft prospects.’ Stewart is also a former freshman All-American and All-SEC pick.
