Sky Sports DROP Baller League after ‘partnership came to natural end’ – with celebrity-backed competition ‘keen to become free-to-air’

Sports broadcasting giants Sky Sports have ended their coverage of Baller League from next season after opting not to renew their contract.The competition, which has since its inception been backed by the likes of KSI, Gary Lineker and Ian Wright, sold out the O2 Arena for last season’s final, which was won by KSI’s Prime FC.According to The Guardian, Sky are said to have been happy with viewing figures and social media interaction, but feel the partnership has come to a natural end.The first UK edition of the tournament, which is an indoor six-a-side competition, took place in 2025 and follows a common trend of the growth in power of influencers. The teams were usually made up of former professional footballers or those without a club, and have also been managed by the likes of Chloe Kelly and Angry Ginge.It had first launched in Germany a year prior, inspired by Spain’s Kings League, with backing from footballers Mats Hummels and Lukas Podolski. Sky Sports had ended its partnership with Baller League, who are keen to make the competition free-to-airChief executive Felix Starck told The Guardian that the organisation had not tried to extend its deal with Sky and is keen to make its shows free-to-air. It is reported, though, that talks with Comcast, Sky’s parent company, did take place.They are said to now be focusing on expanding their YouTube profile.The Baller League is made up of 12 teams and there are rolling subs throughout games.Each team plays each other once in back-to-back matches on Monday nights, with the final four at the end of the season progressing to the semi-finals, before the final decides the winner of the league.
