There’s a new man atop the PGA Tour’s career earnings list, and that man wants a beer in his hand.On Sunday, World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler finished on the right side of his battle against Viktor Hovland and won his second Tour Championship.After losing a playoff to the Norwegian at the Travelers Championship in late June, Scheffler beat Hovland by three strokes to win just his third tournament of the season.The victory saw him take home $10million, pushing him past Tiger Woods on the all-time tour earnings list at $130,390,661. Woods had held the title since February of 2000 and sits at just shy of $121million in career earnings.To celebrate the occasion, Scheffler told reporters that a few adult beverages were calling his name as the PGA Tour season came to an end.’There was an open bar inside and I’m like, alright, I’m grabbing a beer,’ Scheffler said. ‘It tasted great.’Scottie Scheffler was asked how he plans to celebrate winning the Tour Championship and the $10 million prize. My wife and manager were like, wow, I haven’t seen you have a beer in a long time. Well, season’s over now. I’m going to have a beer. Well-earned beer.’With another title under his belt, Scheffler’s year-long earnings totaled $30.9million to push him past Woods. The 15-time major champion congratulated Scheffler on social media after the accomplishment was solidified.’Three wins, five runner-ups and finishing the season No. 1. After winning the first tournament of the season at The American Express in California, he wouldn’t win another event in the PGA Tour’s regular season.It certainly wasn’t because he was playing bad golf. Scheffler came runner-up at the Masters, the Cadillac Championship at Doral and the 3M Open while losing in playoffs at Harbour Town and the aforementioned Travelers. Add in top-3 finishes at the WM Phoenix Open and the Byron Nelson as well as top-five finishes at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am, the US Open and The Open Championship and Scheffler just continued to come up short.That is, until the FedEx Cup Playoffs began. Scheffler won the FedEx St. Jude Championship at TPC Southwind and followed that up with a tie for 12th at the BMW Championship the week prior. Scheffler won three events and finished runner-up five times, including two playoff lossesIn the end, Scheffler finished tied for the most wins on the tour alongside Wyndham Clark, Matt Fitzpatrick and Chris Gotterup.’I think that’s something I’m very proud of. I think when you look over the course of the season, and especially some of the tough starts — shooting over-par to start a tournament on the PGA Tour is never a good spot to be in,’ Scheffler said about his season. ‘I’m very proud of fighting back and having some good finishes and even giving myself some chances to win with some of those poor starts.’Overall just continued to battle, like you said, day in and day out. It’s something that I’m very proud of. It’s a gift to be out here on tour.
