Brazil football legend Roberto Carlos has revealed he lost 99 per cent of his £133million earnings from his playing career amid issues with a former agent and a family member.The former left back, who won the World Cup with his country in 2002, detailed this week how he had to fight his way back from almost nothing after being dealt documents that almost wiped him out.’I had problems with people who left me with zero money,’ he said at the Portugal Football Summit, as per Globo. ‘Because of agents and family issues, I lost 99 per cent of everything I had earned in football.’I made mistakes, and that’s why I ask younger players not to make the same mistakes.’On a Thursday, I went to bed at midnight, and on Friday, I received a bunch of papers I didn’t even know existed. That’s when I lost my entire history.’Carlos divorced his wife of 15 years in 2025, a move which resulted in reports suggesting he had been sleeping at Real Madrid’s training ground – where he works as an ambassador. My legal team is addressing these claims, and I request privacy during this time.’According to Spanish publication Estadio Deportivo, the divorce settlement with his then-wife, Mariana Luccon, was expected to be a complicated one due to Carlos’ eye-watering fortune, which was valued at around €160million (£133million).They had two children together. Prior to that, he had said he fathers 11 children by seven different women, claiming: ‘Now I live with Manuela and I have several around. I have seven in Brazil. I have one in Mexico, I have one in Hungary who lives in Alicante and the others live in Brazil.’He has been married three times, having wed Soheila Tahiri earlier this year. Carlos retired in 2012 and now works as an ambassador for former side Real Madrid, and was planning for life outside of football before his playing days came to an end.He once earned up to £85,000-a-week at Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala, but had to rely on a friend to help get his finances back on track.
