Marcus Rashford has joined up with Manchester United’s squad in Ireland as he faces up to the prospect of being reintegrated at his boyhood club.While it is still far from certain that Rashford remains at United following the summer transfer window’s deadline of 11pm on September 1, the England international has now joined up with team-mates at their Ireland training camp just outside of Dublin.Rashford, 28, spent last season on loan at Barcelona and has not played for United since December 12, 2024, when he fell out of favour under then-head coach Ruben Amorim.For a long while it appeared that Rashford, who returns to the United fold having won LaLiga last season in Spain, was never going to play for United again but that hard-line stance appears to have softened in recent weeks and months and it is now seen as a viable option for him to become part of Michael Carrick’s plans.After arriving at United’s Carrington training base on Sunday following a three-week break after the FIFA World Cup, Rashford, along with eight of his team-mates, jetted out to Maynooth to join up with United’s 22-man squad which drew 1-1 with Paris Saint-Germain in Gothenburg on Saturday.United’s hierarchy have long been open to letting Rashford leave but his £325,000-a-week salary, which was agreed when he signed a five-year contract at Old Trafford in 2023, has proven prohibitive, especially after Barcelona passed up on the opportunity to make his loan permanent and instead signed his England team-mate Anthony Gordon.
