Rangers boss Derek McInnes has revealed the club have demanded answers from the Scottish Football Association as to why a tackle from Celtic midfielder Mika Baur on Ryan Naderi went unpunished in last week’s Old Firm clash.Baur went in with his studs showing and caught Naderi with a poor challenge during Rangers’ 3-0 win in the Premier Sports Cup quarter-final at Ibrox last Sunday.With the bitter rivals set to meet again on Sunday in a league clash, McInnes revealed that striker Naderi is a doubt for the trip to Parkhead due to his ankle being ‘a mess’ as a result of the tackle.At the time, the on-field decision from referee Nick Walsh was to award a free-kick to Celtic. But McInnes insists VAR should have intervened and asked the referee to take a second look.‘Jim Gillespie (Rangers chief executive) spoke to Willie Collum at the SFA about it,’ said McInnes. ‘I’m really not happy with the challenge, but I’m not going to get caught up in referee chat.‘However, I’m surprised that the referee wasn’t asked to look at that. I find it strange that he wasn’t. Ryan’s ankle is a mess. It was a poor challenge. Ryan Naderi is doubtful for this weekend’s clash with Celtic after picking up an ankle knock‘Sometimes these challenges can happen, but it didn’t look great, to be honest.‘Ryan is one of two players who’s a wee bit of doubt for the game on Sunday. We don’t really have another like for like (replacement) for Ryan, but we’ll give him every chance.‘We’ve had to cope without key players before. Hopefully he can make it but if he doesn’t it will be somebody else’s opportunity.’Rangers will travel to Celtic Park knowing that a victory would close the gap on their rivals to just two points. However, if they were to lose, the gap would sit at a hefty eight points heading into the international break.Celtic fans have been in uproar all week on the back of the derby defeat, which was then followed by another woeful performance in the 3-1 Europa League defeat to Ferencvaros.McInnes is determined that his players should use the feelgood factor to their advantage heading into the second instalment of the derby double-header.‘After last week, there’s a kind of positivity and a feel-good factor amongst the fan base and certainly amongst everybody within the club,’ he said. ‘But we needed a big performance and I thought we got exactly that, to be honest. I think we’re getting a semblance of consistency, a semblance of good performance levels.‘We managed to score at good times, which we hadn’t been doing. Even though we’d been getting wins, it still felt like we needed to be doing a bit more.‘It was a cup tie last week and it was just about getting through. The fact that we got through and we’ve got a semi-final tucked away now to look forward to is great, but we need to get back on the horse and get ready to deal with league business.‘It’s been a good week in that sense and the preparation we’ve been pleased with. Obviously, it’s a big performance will be required again on Sunday.’After being backed by a raucous home crowd of 50,000 fans last week, McInnes and his players will now face a role reversal with no away fans at Parkhead.Asked whether his team can replicate that same energy and aggression despite having no fans, he said: ‘I think all that can be a wee bit overhyped. The game’s a game.‘I think once the ball rolls, it’s a game of football that we need to concentrate on the detail in and out of possession, what we’re looking to try and do. Belgian left-back Tuur Rommens is fit again and nearing a first-team return‘Yes, the support, regardless, it’s always going to be the vast majority of Celtic anyway. So from that side, I think even if there were some Rangers fans in, you’re still trying to go there and try to keep a lid on things by performing well.‘We just need to go there with a mindset that we’re there to bring a performance to win the game. It’s all about winning the game.’In terms of other team news, McInnes added: ‘Tuur (Rommens) trained today and we’ll see how he is. Obviously he’s been out a decent length of time. So we’ll see how he is, but he certainly looked okay today.‘We’ve got another unnamed player, that I would rather not say, that is a doubt. And obviously Ryan hasn’t trained today, but hoping he might train tomorrow.’
