Mike Vrabel hit back at CJ Gardner-Johnson after the Bills star derided the Patriots’ Efton Chism over his incredible game-winning touchdown in Buffalo.Chism, an undrafted free agent, made a stunning one-handed catch as New England secured a 29-26 victory on Sunday. It was just his seventh reception since joining the Patriots in 2025 but it condemned the Bills to a first loss of the season and afterwards Gardner-Johnson dismissed Chism as only a ‘practice squad player.’The Bills safety said: ‘An elevated guy made a hell of a catch – [we] probably won’t hear from him again…. a practice squad player made a hell of a play. ‘That’s all I’m going to tell you. You do it again, and he probably won’t make it again.’Gardner-Johnson’s comments quickly went viral and when they were put to Vrabel, the Patriots coach did not turn down the chance to poke holes in the safety’s own resume. Chism, meanwhile, has played in 11 regular-season games and has never spent time on the Patriots practice squad.’Nobody works harder [than Chism]. You love to see players take advantage of opportunities, to help the team win,’ Vrabel added.’He is very well respected, he practices, he is on show team, he takes a million reps, nobody logs more miles or yards or whatever we track than Chis.’Following Sunday’s game, Gardner-Johnson reminded the Patriots that they will meet again in Week 13.’They won the game, whatever,’ he said. ‘They didn’t do s***. They didn’t do s*** better than us. We’ve got to play better.’And they can mark that. We’ll be back to see them at the end of the year, so they better have that same energy. They put up what, 20-something points? They barely scored. They struggled all game.’
