Elliot Anderson has completed his record £116million move from Nottingham Forest to Manchester City.The England midfielder, 23, will link up with his new club after he has concluded World Cup duties.The deal makes Anderson the most expensive British player ever, surpassing the £115m Real Madrid paid for Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund in 2023.Only Liverpool’s £125m spend on Alexander Isak and £116.5m outlay on Florian Wirtz last summer were more expensive incoming transfers in Premier League history.The timing of the move should allow Forest greater room for manoeuvre in the transfer market this month, as the Anderson fee can be written down in the 2026–27 accounting year for the purposes of spending rules.Anderson had also been targeted by Manchester United but made clear throughout that City were his first choice. He will link up with new City boss Enzo Maresca as the club try to regain the Premier League title.Under incoming boss Oliver Glasner, Forest are looking to make a minimum three or four signings, and at least one of those will be a central midfielder. Liverpool’s Curtis Jones is among those Forest are following, along with Lucas Bergvall of Tottenham and Jack Hinshelwood, the Brighton player Forest identified last winter.
