New Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Keenan Allen has been formally charged by police in the wake of his drunk-driving arrest ahead of the NFL season.Allen, 34, is a six-time Pro Bowler and former Comeback Player of the Year, but his career was thrown into jeopardy when he was pulled over by cops just 11 days after signing with his new team.Court records now show that the NFL star has been formally charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration of equivalent to .15 or more, and he now awaits his fate on and off the field.According to court documents first reported by Fox 59, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police saw a vehicle parked in front of a meter with a ‘no parking’ sign at around 1am on August 30.When the officer approached the driver – later confirmed to be Allen – to tell him that he needed to move his vehicle, he appeared to have ‘extremely slurred speech and glassy eyes’.The officer also noted ‘observing the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath,’ and claimed that Allen ‘constantly licked his lips’, according to the affidavit. Keenan Allen is facing multiple drunk driving charges after being arrested in Indianapolis Just hours before his arrest, Allen was playing for his new team against the Detroit LionsHe then submitted to a portable breathalyzer test and failed to register a reading twice, before ultimately producing a reading of 0.224 – nearly three times the legal driving limit in Indiana. Allen also consented to a blood draw, before being taken to the Marion County Jail, where he was seen in a glassy-eyed mugshot released to the public.The case against Allen was formally filed on Tuesday and the wide receiver, along with his counsel, waived his initial hearing which was slated for Wednesday.Allen, who has earned just under $140 million in the NFL, now awaits his fate and there is a chance his legal woes could prematurely end his career at the age of 34. Despite the charges hanging over his head, Allen played for the Colts in their season-opening loss against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.In the game, Allen caught six-of-six passes for 32 yards, and is listed third on the Colts depth chart behind Alec Pierce and Josh Downs for receivers.The NFL’s policy says an eight-game suspension could be handed down for ‘aggravating circumstances’, which Allen’s ‘extreme intoxication of .15 or more’ would come under.If that is the NFL’s decision, it is likely the Colts would release him from his one-year deal, leaving Allen staring at a long suspension as he approaches his 35th birthday next April. He had only signed for the Indianapolis Colts in August after being released by the Chargers at the end of the 2025 season, bringing to an end his second stint with the team.Allen has spent 12 of his 13 NFL seasons with the Chargers organization, after first being selected by San Diego in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft.
