NFL icon-turned-CBS analyst JJ Watt had an awkward moment in Denver on Sunday, after security guards blocked him from entering the stadium ahead of the game. Watt was on the call alongside Jim Nantz but at one point earlier in the day he had been denied entry to the stadium by cautious security guards after he forgot his media credential. What could have been a disastrous turn of events became a funny story for Watt, though, as he recounted the tale on TV ahead of the game Sunday.’I always do a morning walk,’ he revealed on NFL Today. ‘I was up early, daylight savings on the West Coast, so I did a walk at 6am. Way off in the distance, I saw the stadium and I was like, “It’s a beautiful day. Let’s let’s walk over there.” ‘So I walk over to the stadium and I get there, and I don’t have a credential because I wasn’t planning on walking to the stadium. And they’re like, “Go through security.” So I do the face recognition, which it lights up green. Says “JJ Watt, welcome to the stadium.” So I’m like, “All right.” I start to walk in, and they go, “Sorry, sorry, you you can’t come in.” Despite being one of the most recognizable faces in football, and a future Hall of Famer with 12 seasons under his belt, it appears the security didn’t recognize him and certainly weren’t willing to budge. JJ Watt revealed that he struggled to gain access to the Denver Broncos stadium on Sunday Watt has been alongside Jim Nantz in the main CBS booth this season, with mixed reviews Watt is now CBS’ No 1 game analyst after the network named him Tony Romo’s replacementJJ was on his morning walk but the Broncos security wouldn’t let him in the stadium without his credential…@Ky1eLong: “That’s gotta be the only person in the history of the universe to successfully block JJ Watt.” ?? pic.twitter.com/jdq7CDs02v— NFL on CBS ? (@NFLonCBS) November 1, 2026 ‘I said, “Why not?”,’ Watt continued. ‘They said, “You don’t have a credential.” And I said, “I just… I just scanned my face.” They said, “I’m sorry, we can’t.” So an employee walks over and goes, “I’ll escort him onto the field,” and they’re like, “No, if he doesn’t have a credential, he can’t get in.” ‘So respect to the Broncos security staff, but I couldn’t get into the stadium this morning, so I still haven’t been on the field yet.’The host then hilariously quipped: ‘I tell you what, that’s got to be the only person in the history of the universe to be able to successfully block JJ Watt.’After heading back to his hotel, Watt was eventually able to head into the stadium and up to the booth, where he commentated on a narrow win for the Broncos over Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. The game went right down to the wire and ended with a big defensive stop by the Broncos in the final seconds of the game, with Mahomes denied on fourth-and-goal as time expired.
