NFL commissioner Roger Goodell debuted a marsupial-inspired winter coat before the league’s first regular season game in Australia on what was Thursday night back in America and Friday morning in Melbourne.Ahead of Netflix’s presentation of the San Francisco 49ers-Los Angeles Rams game from the Melbourne Cricket Ground, the 67-year-old executive was presented with the garment: A beige coat fitted with a kangaroo face and ears atop its hood.’Listen, it’s the start of a new tradition on the field, but a tradition continues off of it because Roger you, quite famously, wore our Santa coat here on Netflix,’ studio host Elle Duncan told the audience as staff brought out the Netflix/NFL branded kangaroo coat.Goodell previously wore a Santa coat at Netflix’s Upfront Event in May to announce the league’s Christmas Day games.This time, though, Duncan said he was doing this ‘to represent the culture.”This is our kangaroo coat that the MVP of today’s game will be wearing,’ Duncan said as the laughing Goodell thrust his arms into the coat’s sleeves. ‘And you get to christen it.’ NFL commissioner Roger Goodell debuted a marsupial-inspired winter coat before the league’s first regular season game in Australia on what was Thursday night back in America Duncan joked Netflix wanted to ‘turn [Goodell] into a furry,’ referring to a specific subcultureDuncan also joked Netflix was trying to ‘turn you into a furry,’ referring to the subculture of adults who dress in life-sized cartoon animal costumes.This particular coat was fitted with a bicycle helmet on the inside of the hood to provide some shape for the kangaroo face.’Oh, you get a helmet with it too,’ the delighted Goodell said.Duncan then complimented Goodell on his appearance: ‘You’ve never looked smarter or more in command.’Kangaroos are native to eastern Australia and are widely recognized as the country’s national symbol.The jacket worn by Goodell was intended for the MVP of the Rams-49ers game.
