A World Cup predictions expert has been mocked by Neymar after finally seeing his luck run dry. Joachim Klement, an investment strategist, had correctly forecasted the winners of the last three World Cups after designing a mathematical model to predict the outcomes. But his projection that the Netherlands would win this tournament fell flat after they lost on penalties to Morocco. He had also fancied Japan to get the better of Brazil and Neymar, 34, was all too gleeful to hit back on social media after the South Americans clinched a 2-1 win in stoppage time. ‘Mr. Joachim Klement… please try again at the next World Cup,’ he said. ‘You got it wrong again.’In a way, Klement will be pleased. He initially set up his prediction model in order to predict how unreliable they can be in economics. At the fourth attempt, he was finally proven right. Neymar has mocked a World Cup preidctions expert who said that Brazil would lose to Japan… and that the Netherlands would win the tournament! Joachim Klement predicted the last three World Cup winners but finally came unstuckHe wrote on his blog: ‘On Sunday, I said in my post that I could come to the office on Tuesday with serious egg on my face if Japan, Germany, and the Netherlands all lose within 12 hours. ‘This morning, I am sitting at my desk with a poster taped to it saying “No Refunds” and a Dutch flag at half mast.’If the last night shows anything, it is how unpredictable knock-out matches are. Every one of the matches could easily have gone the other way, particularly the penalty shootouts.’He accepted his shortcoming with good grace but also suggested that not all hope is lost for Virgil van Dijk and his Netherlands team-mates.Van Dijk was harshly blasted for ‘ruining Dutch football’ by their national press after their penalties defeat by Morocco, while manager Ronald Koeman has already stepped down. But Klement believes the Oranje will be among the favourites at their next tournament.’To the Dutch national team and all the Dutch people, I apologise if I gave you false hope but boy you were unlucky. Just think of [Bart] Verbruggen’s ‘almost save’ in the penalty shootout.’This match was the cruellest of losses but I know this team can win a major trophy. Maybe at the Euros in two years, but I assure you, I am not going to make any forecasts for that tournament.’When the tournament started, people laughed at me and others who said the Netherlands could win this tournament. By the end of the group stages the Dutch were mentioned by experts as the fourth team to watch next to France, Spain and Argentina.’How much is David Beckham set to pocket from his World Cup brand deals?
