A list of Arsenal’s transfer targets for the summer window has been published – revealing a number of surprise failed moves, including for Chelsea striker Joao Pedro.The Premier League champions made five major additions in the transfer window, at a cost of almost £200million, while also engaging in a well-publicised failed pursuit of Real Madrid superstar Vinicius Junior.The Brazilian features on a 21-man list of players Arsenal did not sign – but did target – revealed after the closing of the transfer window. Joao Pedro is among the most eye-catching, among nine Premier League players listed, along with Tottenham centre back duo Micky van der Ven and Cristian Romero. Van der Ven stayed at struggling Spurs and signed a new contract while Romero moved to Atletico Madrid for £34m.Arsenal have been hunting for a new superstar attacker to boost their bid to win the Champions League for the first time in their history and Julian Alvarez and Vinicius are joined on the list by Bradley Barcola, who Liverpool signed for £123m, and Real Madrid’s £120m purchase Yan Diomande.Sandro Tonali, Elliot Anderson and Morgan Rogers, who signed for Tottenham, Manchester City and Chelsea for £100m, £116m and £117m, are also included. The Blues were adamant their Brazilian No 9 was not for sale this summer, and the BBC report Arsenal had ‘concerns over how he would fit into Mikel Arteta’s system’.Arsenal did recruit from the Premier League, bringing in Bruno Guimaraes, Ezri Konsa and back-up goalkeeper Illan Meslier from Newcastle, Villa and Leeds. Christos Tzolis joined from Club Brugge and Piero Hincapie’s loan from Bayer Leverkusen was made permanent.Guimaraes signed ahead of Tonali and Scott due to factors including availability and age and the move by sporting director Andrea Berta is reported to have been ‘well recieved’ at the Emirates. Inter refused to engage.The lack of a superstar attacker has left some Arsenal fans disappointed by manager Arteta insists he is satisfied with their business and their attempts at signings.Ahead of facing Chelsea, when asked if boxes had been ticked over recruitment, he said: ‘Yeah, 100 per cent ticked.’The outcome after can be different to what you expect, but the intention is certainly there, which is, in my opinion, what I value the most.’Arsenal’s record signing remains the £105m deal to buy Declan Rice from West Ham United in 2023.
