Mark Sanchez reaches tentative agreement to settle lawsuit over near-fatal brawl with truck driver

Mark Sanchez has reached a tentative agreement to settle a lawsuit over a near-fatal brawl with a truck driver which saw him stabbed and arrested in October 2025.Sanchez was charged with battery causing serious injury, unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle and public intoxication after a fight left 69-year-old truck driver Perry Tole injured.Last month, his attorneys filed a motion for him to enter a guilty plea in the criminal case, but gave no indication in the September 3 filing to which charges he planned to plead guilty.Court documents obtained by the Daily Mail show that Sanchez and Tole have reached an ‘agreement in principle’ to settle their lawsuit. Future dates in the case have been vacated, according to the filing in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana. Tole has until January 8 to file a motion to dismiss the case. ‘Additional time to complete the execution of the settlement documents may be granted if requested in writing before expiration of this period,’ the order states.  Mark Sanchez was arrested after the near-fatal brawl in downtown Indianapolis last October Sanchez left his role with Fox in the aftermath of the incident and his ongoing legal battlesMarion Superior Court is scheduled for a change of plea hearing in the criminal case on November 9, where the lawsuit was originally filed by being transferred to a federal court last year. Sanchez’ guilty plea still needs to be accepted by a judge after the filing, which was called a ‘positive development’ by his brother and legal advisor Nick Sanchez Jr. last month.  His jury trial originally scheduled for March 12 has rescheduled five times, most recently being set for September 8 before Sanchez’s attorneys requested his plea deal be accepted.’We are finalizing an agreement with the prosecutor’s office that provides a path toward resolving the state’s case,’ Nick Sanchez Jr told FOX59 last month.  ‘We’re also encouraged by the constructive conversations taking place regarding the related civil matter. There is real momentum toward bringing this entire chapter to a close.’An attorney representing Tole, Matt Goltiko, said at the time: ‘We are pleased with the constructive and professional conversations we’ve had with Mr. Sanchez’s team. ‘Our discussions have been productive and we’re on a positive path toward an agreement that will allow the parties to move forward. Mr. Tole appreciates the progress we have achieved and looks forward to an amicable resolution.’During an alleged near-fatal brawl with Tole, Sanchez, 39, suffered multiple stab wounds to his upper right torso. Perry Tole was pictured in his hospital bed after the brawl that saw Sanchez arrested Sanchez was fired from Fox after his arrest and has seen a criminal trial delayed several timesSanchez, who has been married to wife Perry Mattfeld since 2023, was in Indianapolis to cover the Colts’ game against the Las Vegas Raiders for Fox the following day when the altercation with Tole occurred. After briefly being booked into jail upon his release from hospital, he was fired by the network in early November.A police affidavit alleged that Sanchez, smelling of alcohol, accosted Tole, who had backed his truck into a hotel’s loading docks in downtown Indianapolis on October 4.Tole claimed in a lawsuit that Sanchez entered the truck without permission, then physically blocked him. The driver responded by dousing him with pepper spray, he told police. When Sanchez advanced after being sprayed, Tole pulled a knife to defend himself, authorities said.A picture of Tole that circulated online following the incident showed him in a neck brace on a hospital bed, covered in blood with a deep slash to the side of his face.Tole, who has claimed self-defense and has not been charged, has been suing Sanchez, Fox Sports and local restaurateur Huse Culinary in federal court.
