Former Scotland boss Craig Levein has claimed he attended an exorcism with former Prime Minister Gordon Brown in an attempt to sign a player for Raith Rovers.Levein briefly served as Raith Rovers manager in 2006, which saw him take charge of the second tier side on a non-contract basis for seven matches.Speaking on the Undr the Cosh podcast, Levein revealed he had been convinced to join by Brown, with the pair both being boyhood fans of the Fife-based club.Levein explained that a meeting with Brown, who was the Chancellor of the Exchequer at the time, took a strange turn after the pair attempted to sign defender Marvin Andrews. Andrews, who had previously spent three years at the club, had become a free agent after being released by Rangers.Levein said the meeting had been set up at the Zion Praise Centre in Kirkcaldy, which was run by the Trinidad and Tobago defender’s spiritual mentor, Pastor Joe Nwokoye. Gordon Brown reportedly attended an exorcism as he tried to help Raith Rovers sign a player in 2006 Former Scotland boss Craig Levein said he and Brown watched in a church as the pair attempted to meet Marvin Andrews, right, and sign the defenderWhile waiting to speak with Andrews, Levein claimed both he and Brown were left watching a service in which the pastor had attempted to ‘cast out demons’ from worshippers. ‘Gordon Brown phoned me to go and meet him in Kirkcaldy,’ Levein said.’As an aside, Raith are trying to sign Marvin Andrews. So I drive along and park my car in the car park and when I got there three Range Rovers came tearing into the car park. ‘The lights are going and the sirens and I’m thinking, ‘What the f—?!”The window came down in one of them and it’s Gordon. He says, ‘Jump in my car, we are going down to see Marvin’, who was working that evening in the church.’We had chosen an evening to go along when they were casting out demons.’The guys are going up on the stage and Pastor Joe is putting his hand on their heads and there is a whole lot of wailing noises going on and he shoves them and they fall backwards.’I am sitting there going, ‘What the f*** is going on?’ I’m there to meet Marvin and there are people falling about and there is about six people lying on the ground.’It was the most bizarre evening I have ever had.’ Andrews became a Christian preacher following his retirement from footballAndrews had revealed upon signing for Raith in 2006 that he had held talks with both Brown and Levein, with the pair attending a meeting with his pastor.’I’m delighted to be back at Starks Park but I’m not here because of what Gordon Brown said,’ Andrews said.’My main decision was what God told me. I am back here because God wants me here. It is simple. ‘Many clubs came in for me but God never said anything to me. This is the place God wants me to be.’Andrews, who won the Scottish Premiership with Rangers, became a Christian preacher following his retirement. In 2017 he offered to exorcise a haunted house where five scared nannies quit in a year.’There are different types of spirits, but in my experience anything problematic is usually linked to Satan,’ Andrews said at the time.’It’s the Devil you are dealing with. In this case the spirit is obstructive so it is a problem.’
