One of the two football players who attempted to return to college football after signing NFL deals has been given a green light to play professionally this year.In mid-September, the NFL initially ruled defensive lineman Zxavian Harris ineligible to sign for any of its member teams in the 2026 season. However, in a memo obtained by the Associated Press, the league ruled the former Mississippi player would be free to sign with teams this season. This comes after a failed attempt to play this season with LSU as he tried to reunite with his former college coach, Lane Kiffin.Harris was joined by former Rebels teammate Dae’Quan Wright in their bid to play at LSU, with the players suing the NCAA and the SEC to get back into college.’The NFL interviewed Mr. Harris and sought independent verification of his activities after the start of NFL training camps and agrees with the NFLPA’s contention that “plays college football” means, at a minimum, participation in a practice (or game) for the applicable college football team,’ the memo said. The NFL has ruled that former Saints player Zxavian Harris can sign with teams as a free agent Harris was previously ruled ineligible after he attempted to return to college football But LSU coach Lane Kiffin ultimately left Harris off his roster amid legal uncertaintiesThe SEC passed a rule barring professional athletes from returning to college to play, but a Louisiana court filed an injunction to put that restriction on hold.Still, LSU left both Harris and Wright off their rosters as the season began. The memo does not mention Wright, meaning it’s likely that his status hasn’t changed as of now. After going undrafted this past spring, Harris signed with the New Orleans Saints as a member of their practice squad. He was waived by the Saints on August 8, leading to his attempt to go to LSU.The Tigers are sitting with a 4-2 record so far this season. While they own a ranked win over Texas A&M, they have losses to Mississippi and Kentucky on their resume as well.LSU, which fell to No. 22 after the Kentucky defeat, will host No. 16 Mississippi State this Saturday.
