A Florida high school has been hit by another tragedy after a second football coach in a matter of months died suddenly. Gainesville High assistant football coach Quintavis Styles, 31, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 29 after he lost consciousness in the school’s administration offices that morning.He was rushed to UF Health Shands Hospital by paramedics where he was declared dead after attempts to resuscitate him failed.The District 8 Medical Examiner’s Office (Alachua County’s coroner office) said the cause of death has yet to be determined, per The Gainesville Sun.Gainesville High School athletic director Phillip Knight shared his heartbreak for students at the school in an interview with the outlet as he revealed they had been given ‘some time off’ to come to terms with Styles’ death. ‘Coach Styles only joined us three months ago, but I feel incredibly bad for our kids to have to go through this again,’ Knight said. ‘We are giving them some time off this week before resetting next week.’ Quintavis Styles, a high school football coach in Gainesville, Florida, has died aged 31 Styles collapsed in a school office and was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced deadOn April 7, junior varsity football coach Rick Rone died suddenly just before spring football practices got underway.An online tribute to Rone said: ‘Rick spent his entire life in Gainesville, where he left an indelible mark as a teacher, coach, and devoted family man.’Rick’s love for football was matched only by his love for people. He was known for his calm demeanor, patience, and understanding nature. ‘As a teacher and coach, he celebrated the accomplishments of others and inspired countless young people with his encouragement and support. ‘His generosity with his time and willingness to help in any situation made him a cherished figure in both his professional and personal life.’The school has also faced turmoil with senior kicker Sebastian Jimenez detained by ICE in August and sent to detention in Texas before returning to Florida and rejoining the team in early September.Colorado native Styles moved to Gainesville earlier this year to work under first-year head coach Ashour Peera, who he played for at Gateway High School in Aurora, Colorado in 2013 and 2014. He then attended the University of Northern Colorado.He was one of a host of assistants brought to the school by Peera after he was hired in June, although the head coach was placed on administrative leave by the school district earlier this month. Styles, who attended the University of Northern Colorado, moved to Florida earlier this year Rick Rone, a junior varsity coach at the same school, also died suddenly earlier this yearStyles’ LinkedIn profile says he held various education jobs in Colorado, and was Director of Community Relations for Colorado state representative Jennifer Bacon in Denver before moving to Florida. Gainesville has a built-in bye week this week and does not play again until October 9 at Lake Weir. The Hurricanes lost their last game 54-6 and have defensive coordinator Ray Smith serving as interim head coach while Peera is on leave.
