Florida A&M head football coach Quinn Gray wasn’t trying to be rude when he abruptly ended his quarterback’s post-game interview following Friday’s dramatic 28-27 win at Alabama State.Rather, as Gray has since explained, he was urging quarterback Armond Parker off the field to avoid a post-game confrontation that was brewing just off camera. In a social media post following the narrow victory, Gray issued an apology to reporter Symone Stanley and the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) TV crew for confusing moments following Florida A&M’s victory.’Want apologize to @Symone_Stanley of SWAC TV for the abrupt ending to her interview with our QB Armond Parker,’ Gray wrote on X. ‘There was a situation happening on the field and tempers were flaring and I needed everyone to get to the [locker room] so there wasn’t another story that would have needed to be explained. So again I truly apologize to her and the SWAC TV Crew.’The viral incident sparked an outcry of sympathy for Stanley, who was in the middle of her interview with Parker when Gray intervened.’Coach said this week bye was all about soul searching,’ Stanley told Parker. ‘Tell me the mindset…’Context Matters! Before coming at Coach Gray for ending the interview early please watch the entire event and see how a fight was avoided. It absolutely sucks that Symone’s interview got cut short but context does matter. pic.twitter.com/bgwOzNp3F0— Fifth Quarter FAMU (@FQFAMU) October 10, 2026 Reporter Symon was in the middle of her interview with Armond Parker when Gray intervened As Gray has since explained, he was urging quarterback Armond Parker off the field due to avoid a post-game confrontation that was brewing just off camera Florida A&M coach Quinn Gray said he wasn’t trying to be rude when he abruptly ended his quarterback’s post-game interview following Friday’s dramatic 28-27 win at Alabama StateIt was then that Gray patted his quarterback on the shoulder and encouraged him to return to the locker room as the stunned Stanley turned back towards the camera.’Alright, Quinn Gray, his team, trying to get out of here…,’ SWAC TV announcer Jared Oliver said after the awkward exchange. ‘I’m overwhelmed by the love and support I’ve received from my peers,’ Stanley wrote in an X post on Saturday. ‘[The] respect is mutual and I really really appreciate you all.’There was also a considerable amount of criticism aimed at Gray both before and following his apology. However, Gray did receive more supportive posts on X after he explained himself to his followers.’Coach, you did what was necessary for the safety of your team and staff,’ one Rattlers fan wrote online. ‘Many don’t take into account the huge responsibility that comes with the position you hold.’Game footage on SWAC TV shows some post-game trash talk being exchanged by the two teams, who were ultimately separated by coaches. Florida A&M’s win was exciting enough without the post-game drama. The Rattlers scored 14 fourth-quarter points to improve to 2-4 as receiver Armand Burris recorded 216 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns on just four catches.Burris had entered the transfer portal before the season but returned to Tallahassee this season before enjoying a breakout game against Alabama State on Friday.
