Denver Broncos star Patrick Surtain II suffered a non-contact injury during Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers.The cornerback, who was named Defensive Player of the Year in 2024 and has been selected for four consecutive Pro Bowls, was preparing to defend a pass when he pulled up.Surtain II stayed down on the turf for a while as medics rushed to help him before he limped off the field with help from trainers. The Broncos announced moments later he was questionable to return with an ankle injury and then he was later ruled out.Things got worse for the Broncos in the second half when Surtain II’s fellow cornerback Riley Moss was ruled out of the game with a rib injury.Then, wide receiver Pat Bryant got hurt late in the third quarter after being tackled following a 30-yard gain. Teammate Courtland Sutton immediately called for the trainers and Bryant left on a cart. He then engineered a 74-yard drive that McCaffrey finished with a one-yard run to extend the lead to 17-6 midway through the fourth after the Broncos had settled for a field goal on fourth-and-2.Bo Nix, who has thrived in late-game comeback situations, tried to mount another for Denver with his 13-yard touchdown pass to Jaylen Waddle cutting the Niners’ lead to 17-14 with a two-point conversion with 4:05 to play.But Purdy sealed the win with a 56-yard touchdown pass to George Kittle with 2:15 to go. Purdy finished 19 of 30 for 218 yards and avoided taking a sack for a fourth straight game and committing no turnovers.Nix struggled to push the ball downfield most of the game with Denver’s running game unable to loosen up the defense. He finished 25 of 42 for 214 yards and one touchdown.
