Darts icon Phil Taylor will return to competitive action, coming out of retirement at the age of 66. The 16-time world champion is to team up with long-time friend Adrian Lewis at the MODUS Super Series International Pairs Tournament from November 23-28 in Portsmouth.Taylor retired from the competitive circuit in 2018, five years after winning his final world crown.On his return, Taylor said: ‘I’ve been asked plenty of times about coming back, but it would have to be for the right reason.’Adrian is one of the very few people I’d come out of retirement to play alongside, and the MODUS Super Series is the place I wanted to do it. Phil Taylor will come out of retirement to compete alongside Adrian Lewis in November’We’ve got a lot of history together, we know each other’s games inside out, and I’m looking forward to getting back up there with him.’Taylor and Lewis previously teamed up to win four World Cup of Darts titles.Taylor lost in the 2018 World Championship final against Rob Cross before joining the senior circuit. A hip injury two years ago put an end to his time in that particular competition but ‘The Power’ is now set to return to the oche. Lewis, who was mentored by Taylor as a youngster, is now 41 and has not played professionally since 2023 on the Pro Tour. But in spite of the inactivity, the duo will hope their previous record when teaming up will stand them in good stead. Their World Cup of Darts titles came four years in succession between 2012 and 2016 in an unprecedented run of dominance. On teaming back up with Taylor, Lewis said: ‘Phil and I have shared some brilliant moments playing together over the years, so to get the chance to do it again is really special,” said Lewis.’We know what it takes to win as a pair and I’m looking forward to seeing what we can do together.’
