Cristiano Ronaldo has held showdown talks with national boss Jorge Jesus and the head of the Portuguese FA amid a row over the star being an unused substitute in the win over Norway.The 41-year-old captain – who skipped training on Wednesday – was left on the bench for his side’s 2-1 victory. It was the first time in 18 years that Ronaldo has not featured at all for Portugal – aside from injury or suspension absences. Jesus had originally planned to bring on the veteran striker for a 30-minute cameo but then decided to leave him on the bench. The decision was validated by Portugal holding on to win the Nations League clash but Ronaldo’s anger has led to FA chief Pedro Proenca hurriedly changing his travel plans to sit down for a three-way meeting held at a hotel in Malmo on Wednesday morning, according to Record. Reports in Portugal claim the talks were ‘calm and cordial’.
