The Philadelphia Eagles have handed defensive tackle Jalen Carter a new four-year contract worth $152 million.Carter, a Super Bowl champion, becomes the highest-paid defensive tackle in NFL history with $106m of his new deal fully guaranteed.Jeffery Simmons of the Tennessee Titans set a new record for the position earlier this summer when he signed a deal worth $35.2m per year. Carter’s contract is worth $38m a year. It comes after Carter’s fellow Eagles defensive tackle, Jordan Davis, also got paid this offseason. He signed a $78m deal back in March.Carter, a two-time Pro Bowl selection, has 13.5 sacks, 37 quarterback hits and 108 tackles so far in his three NFL seasons. But the former first-round NFL Draft pick, 25, caused fury when he spat on Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott just six seconds into the opening game of last season. He was ejected and got handed a one-game suspension and $57,222 fine. Asked if he thought the gouge was an accident, Brown told WGRZ reporter Jonathan Acosta and others: ‘No, I don’t think so, but it was coming I guess.’Previously, Carter was involved in a fatal car crash while celebrating a national championship at the University of Georgia in January of 2023 when teammate Devin Willock and Bulldogs recruiting staffer Chandler LeCroy were both killed.Police believe LeCroy and Carter were street racing in separate cars when she crashed.Carter was given one year of probation and fined $1,000 after pleading no contest to misdemeanor charges of reckless driving and racing related to the wreck.Despite this, the 6-foot-3, 315-pound defensive standout was still picked ninth overall in the 2023 NFL Draft and later started in Philadelphia’s Super Bowl win over the Kansas City Chiefs in February 2025.
