Christian Horner has again been approached by Aston Martin to turn around their ailing Formula One team, Daily Mail Sport understands.The renewed contact comes as the 52-year-old former Red Bull team principal continues to weigh up his options after being controversially ‘relieved’ from his old job 12 months ago.Aston’s Canadian billionaire owner Lawrence Stroll has coveted Horner’s services for a long time and came agonisingly close to signing him a few months ago, only for the deal to be aborted at the 11th hour.This latest SOS makes sense given that Aston are conspicuously struggling, having claimed just one point from eight races despite huge investment from Stroll.Horner is in no immediate rush to return to the paddock after accepting an £80million payoff from his ex-employers, though he has admitted he has ‘unfinished business’ to attend to.Should Horner decide to work at Aston’s £200m state-of-the-art factory opposite Silverstone’s main entrance, he would be following Adrian Newey, his design guru during 20 success-studded years together at Red Bull. The sport’s former supremo Bernie Ecclestone has spoken to the Scuderia’s top brass in an attempt to persuade them to let his old friend lead the Italian team, so far without success.Supported by wealthy investors, Horner has also looked at buying into Alpine, with private equity firm Otro Capital seeking to sell their 24-per cent holding.Starting up a 12th team is another avenue, and Horner has tentatively talked to Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD about the possibility, though that would mean postponing his return by some five more years.Horner has not commented on Aston’s latest moves for him, while a spokesman for the team said: ‘In keeping with our policy we do not comment on rumour and speculation.’
