Bears legend Otis Wilson accuses stadium security of assaulting him and his wife in fracas after Jets game

Bears icon Otis Wilson is demanding an investigation after he and his wife were ‘physically assaulted’ by security staff at Soldier Field after Chicago’s win over the New York Jets.Following Chicago’s 23-12 win on Sunday, it was reported that Wilson was involved in a physical altercation with a female security guard near the press box. According to witnesses, cited by the Chicago Sun-Times, the 69-year-old was put in a wheelchair after a scuffle that left a ‘softball-size’ hole in the wall. The fracas was reportedly sparked by staff telling Wilson – a Super Bowl-winning member of the 1985 Chicago Bears – that he could not get into an elevator reserved for media. On Monday, Wilson released a statement ‘so the public has the facts from those directly involved.’ As well as revealing that he was taken to the hospital ‘for evaluation’ before being released, Wilson called on the Chicago Park District and its security contractor, Monterrey Security, ‘to preserve all surveillance and body camera footage of the incident, to conduct a full and transparent investigation, and to hold the individuals responsible accountable.’ Chicago Bears great Otis Wilson is pictured during an event in Illinois back in 2017  Wilson is best remembered for his Pro Bowl season in 1985 as the ‘Super Bowl Shuffle’ Bears finished 15-1 en route to the first and only Lombardi Trophy in franchise history The incident took place following Sunday’s Bears-Jets game at Chicago’s Soldier FieldHis statement began: ‘Yesterday, my wife and I were physically assaulted by private security personnel… before being able to identify myself as a former Chicago Bears player and attempt to explain why we were there, a security guard approached us and the guard physically assaulted my wife. ‘I was then also assaulted by two private security contractors working at the facility.’He continued: ‘No one, whether a former player, a season ticket holder, or a first-time visitor, should ever be subjected to this kind of treatment at a public venue. ‘A misunderstanding about access to an area should never escalate to physical violence, least of all against a woman who posed no threat to anyone.’In spite of the incident, Wilson insisted his ‘relationship with the Chicago Bears and with this city’s fans remains as strong as ever’ and that the fracas ‘does not reflect the Bears organization or the people of Chicago.’Instead, the 69-year-old said, ‘it reflects the conduct of specific individuals working for a private contractor, and that conduct must be addressed.’
