Arsenal have told staff they are planning to cut 60 jobs, just months after the club ended their 22-year wait for the Premier League title. The redundancies will focus on off-field areas, and not affect the coaching or backroom staff of the men’s or women’s teams, the club’s community operation, the Arsenal Foundation and security staff. The news comes just a week after Arsenal announced Mikel Arteta had signed a lucrative four-year contract worth around £20million per year, making him the highest paid manager in the top flight. Staff were told by the club on Tuesday that 60 jobs will be cut The north London club’s recent financial margins have also been healthy, bringing the controversial decision into question. For the 2021-22 post-Covid season, Arsenal posted a revenue of £367million which increased to a record £691m in the 2024-25 campaign. This figure will have likely reached the £800m mark in the 2025-26 season which saw the Gunners win the league and reach the Champions League final. Losing to Paris Saint-Germain in the Budapest final alone netted the Gunners £16m, though the club also paid out millions in bonuses to players as part of their contracts. While winning the title helped them to a total of almost £200m in prize-money last year, they will also have paid out millions in bonuses to players as part of their contracts. High-profile departures in recent months include chief commercial officer Juliet Slot and long-serving general counsel Svenja Geissmar. The exit of Slot was a particular surprise given her contribution to Arsenal’s commercial boom. During her tenure, commercial revenue rose sharply, rising from £142m in 2021-22 to £263.2m in 2024-25, as the club sought to capitalise on its return to the Champions League and resurgence under Arteta.Slot oversaw a series of lucrative partnership renewals, including with Adidas and Emirates.
