The comedian and actress Hannah Einbinder is perhaps best known for her role as Ava Daniels, a forlorn yet subversive comedy writer, on HBO Max’s “Hacks,” for which she was nominated for five Emmys and four Golden Globes, winning one Emmy and a Critics Choice Award (and proving herself, beyond all doubt, not a hack). Einbinder’s début standup special, “Everything Must Go,” was released in 2024. This year, she starred in the gory, genre-bending film “Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma,” which premièred at the Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Queer Palm. At the twenty-seventh annual New Yorker Festival, Einbinder and the staff writer Rachel Syme sat down for a lively chat.
