It has been a very long year indeed for the Peaty family. From angry exchanges to brutal snubs, the fallout between the Peatys and their in-laws, the Ramsays (the families were joined in holy matrimony in December) has been drawn out publicly for eight long months. And – as highlighted at the Commonwealth Games where not a single Peaty was in evidence to cheer Adam on – there is no sign it is letting up anytime soon. Now, The Mail on Sunday can reveal that the family rift actually goes back further and runs much deeper than reports have so far acknowledged. It’s always been thought that the bitter family feud started during preparations for Adam’s wedding to chef Gordon Ramsay’s middle daughter, Holly, 26, and culminated in him disinviting his once beloved mum, Caroline, 60, from the do at Bath Abbey.Certainly the feud came to an explosive head when Adam’s brother James – known as Jamie – was arrested over allegations he sent aggressive threats to his younger brother during his stag weekend in November 2025.But the truth is, Jamie’s hurt came long before he was uninvited from all wedding celebrations. In fact, the seeds of the rift were laid when Jamie, 34, found himself facing the loss of a baby.He and his wife Charlotte’s longed-for third child was stillborn in 2024.The couple – who live near his parents in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire, with their two sons, Oliver, 11, and seven-year-old Jacob – were devastated when the baby, whom they named Josh, died at 23 weeks. Holly Ramsay and Adam Peaty attend the Wimbledon Tennis Championships in 2024But instead of lining up with his family at the funeral and showing ‘brotherly support’, Adam chose to attend the wedding of one of Holly Ramsay’s friends.‘Jamie lost a child, which broke his heart and Charlotte’s,’ one source close to the family said.‘He had asked Adam to attend the funeral for some moral and emotional support, but his brother let him down, saying he had a social to attend as Holly had invited him to a friend’s wedding, and insisted they had to be there.‘It seems that it created a rift between the two brothers, which has escalated into a full family row.’They added: ‘It was a traumatic time for Jamie and Charlotte. Their baby boy was delivered stillborn. They got to hold him and say hello to him and then said goodbye. But he is never forgotten.’Until now it was a row over Caroline’s outfit for Adam and Holly’s wedding at Bath Abbey last December that was thought to be the beginning of the fallout. This led to Caroline not attending her son’s big day, or Holly’s hen do at the exclusive Soho Farmhouse in Oxfordshire where high-profile guests included Holly’s mum Tana and Victoria Beckham.Meanwhile, relations between Adam and his older brother came to an explosive head when builder Jamie was arrested over allegations he sent aggressive threats to the Olympic gold medallist during his stag weekend in the Hungarian capital of Bucharest in November 2025. It led to Adam getting a large police escort at Manchester airport on his return home. They’ve always been close. Like any normal family brothers fight, argue, fall out, make up, and start all over again. But it’s got out of hand. There’s been very little empathy for Jamie’s genuine mental health difficulties.’Father-in-law Gordon was said to be ‘incredibly supportive’ during this time, after going through similar issues both with his own brother and with his father-in-law and long-time business partner, Tana’s dad, Chris Hutcheson.Whenever and however the feud started, it’s patently obvious that, far from simmering down, tensions still run high. The Peaty family were markedly not in Glasgow to watch Adam Ramsay-Peaty, as he is now named, during any of his disappointing Commonwealth Game races last week.Only his pregnant wife, Holly, watched from the poolside at Tollcross International swimming centre, as the former Olympic champion could only collect bronze medals.Indeed, last month this newspaper revealed that Adam’s sister Bethany, 33, the only member of the Peaty family to attend the infamous wedding, had now also fallen out with Holly over the prickly problem of their joint pregnancies. It’s alleged that Holly did not want her sister-in-law to announce her pregnancy and ‘steal the spotlight’ after she discovered she was having a baby girl. Bethany’s baby – her third – is due in January just weeks after Holly’s due date.Family sources claim Adam has changed since indulging in his new ‘celebrity lifestyle’, which has culminated in being embraced by the Ramsay clan. ‘The boys have always been close, and Jamie even helped Adam renovate his house,’ says the source.‘They’ve always got on, but Adam has changed with his new celebrity lifestyle and family.‘Now Jamie has a potential charge hanging over his head. This is so hurtful and distressing for our family.‘He is hoping it will all be resolved.’As for the Peaty matriarch, her heartache continues. Caroline, 60, previously told the Daily Mail she hit rock bottom when Adam banned her from his life and had even contemplated suicide in the depths of her despair.Whether a Christmas baby (Holly and Adam’s baby is due in December) can unite the warring families is anyone’s guess.
