For ITV, few programmes have proved as successful or bankable as their long-running quiz show The Chase.What began as a cosy tea-time quiz show hosted by Bradley Walsh nearly 18 years ago has become a huge hit, spawning celebrity specials and its prime-time spin-off Beat The Chasers.So when ITV bosses decided to launch a slightly different take on the popular format with The Chase Around The World, they were convinced it would become another sure fire hit.But the Daily Mail can reveal that executives have already decided there will not be a second series, because it simply hasn’t worked.Insiders say they have been left red-faced as the big budget show, which aired weekly this summer, has not got the ratings or reaction they hoped for, with many fans taking to social media to slam the show as ‘boring’ and ‘rubbish’.Its sixth and last episode, which aired on August 20, pulled in 1.2million viewers in the prime-time slot of 9pm. Earlier on the same day, an episode of the regular series averaged 1.6million viewers. The Chase’s latest spin-off The Chase Around The World, has been axed after just one series, the Daily Mail can reveal A source said: ‘The Chase is a simple quiz format that has worked incredibly well for nearly 18 years.’Its spin-off Beat The Chasers also worked because it gave contestants the chance to compete against all six chasers at once, with more banter between the contestants, the chasers and of course Bradley Walsh.‘The Chase Around The World has been one big flop. Bradley has pretty much been reduced to a voiceover man and The Chasers, who are all adored by the viewers, hardly featured at all.’God knows what they were thinking when this spin-off was dreamt up. It’s like they decided to do a Chase version of Race Across The World and sadly for everyone involved it has not worked.‘There’s been quite a lot of embarrassment behind the scenes, and it has already been decided that there won’t be another series.’The show was produced by Bright Entertainment, a label under ITV Studios for ITV.Billed as an adventure series, it saw host Bradley, 66, and The Chasers Mark Labbett, Shaun Wallace, Anne Hegerty, Paul Sinha and Jenny Ryan, leave the studio a six pairs of contestants travelled to cities across the world, given clues and hints to find the various Chasers, with the last pitting their general-knowledge wits against the Chasers to stay in the game.
